What size pipe is your 10 foot BUD on???

Just got to thinking, I may need a new pipe for a dish I found recently. I haven't picked it up yet, so I can't measure it right now. I have a 3 1/2 inch (outer diameter) schedule 40 pipe holding up a 7.5-footer, will I need a larger pipe for a 10.5 footer? Does the polar mount on your 10 foot BUD take a larger than 3.5 inch pipe?

Varies from mount to mount. Most are fit for a 3 1/2 OD pole. But I have one on a 4 1/2 OD pole. That mount had been modded from a 3 1/2" to 4" and I re-modded it to 4 1/2"

The pole outside diameter will vary from manufacturer and model. 3 1/2 - 4 inch OD is standard for many mesh dishes, but it could be 5, 6 or even as large as 8 - 12 inch diameter for heavy fiberglass types.

I have seen a few with square poles and an azimuth adjustment on the mount. These are very rare, but they do exist! Then there are the dishes that use no single center pole, instead using a tripod design.

Probably best to wait until you get the dish so you know the pole size required for the specific mount. Of course you can always make an adapter, so in that case I would oversize the pipe and then reduce it down to a smaller size with a top mounted adapter.

Here is a photo of the mount still on the pole, I guess it's impossible to tell the size from this?

Asked my wife... She thinks it is a 3.5". I think it is at least 8"... Lol!!!

Every dish i have found here in south carolina. All have been 3.5 inch. I found two 7.5 and two 10 foots.

Yea, you're right, I will take a sledge hammer with me and break off the cement, and the pipe comes home with the dish. Great idea you shared.

3.5" I.D. schedule 40 black pipe on mine.

Just remember if ordering Schedule 40 pipe from a metals supplier that they go by the Inside diameter or ID.
So if you need 3.5 inch Outer Diameter, you would order 3 inch ID pipe.

Pipe is used for transporting fluids on the inside, so ID is the only diameter Engineers care about when calculating flow. Structural Tubing on the other hand is measured by OD.
