Does anyone know of a database (besides lyngsat) where you can pick a location, (i.e. Im going to be working in Niger), and I would like to see what I can pick up there while there?

Now Im not going there, just using that as an example.

satbeams.com will show the footprints. That along with lyngsat would probably be the most accurate. Although we all know lyngsat isn't updated very regularly this side of the globe. It's unknown if it's better for the Far East or Europe. (I believe lyngsat is based in Eu)
Only thing that might be better may be a forum based in the region, Might have something like TheList here.

Fat Air beat me to it. I will just add that I did a spot check of G17 transponders/channels on Satbeams and it appears grossly out of date. Lyngsat may not be perfect, but it seems to be closer.

So from your post are you looking for channels available to us in the U.S. ? If so there's lots of places to look, lyngsat isn't my favorite..to outdated for me.

no not for the US mainly for other regions where ku and c are the primary sources of TV, pay or FTA but mainly fta

That is absolutely correct.

Brian: are you 100% satisfied with Satellite Transponder by Kvasha?

I downloaded it and don't like It. it's expensive, in app purchase for more functions. Yuck. I think we can do better!

My thoughts are it should work like so... What do you want? (Fta, sub services, data services, ku/c, etc) Get location, show available services filtered accordingly.

Simple yet functional.

Anyone have any opinion or additions or suggestions.

One reason I want to do it is I'm teaching myself app dev, and I figured a simple location app that can query a database and return a result would be a good place to start, plus be useful too.

Unfortunately, I am rarely even 80% satisfied with anything... :D

I use the free version for quick reference of channels and transponders. Quite easy to use.

I use DishPointer AR for the heavy lifting in conjunction with Mr. Sun for solar position reference and compass accuracy verification.

I know what you mean me too!

And you are in the business so you really know what out there and you probably stay with the relative same area.

But for instance; if you were going to do some work for 6 months on the Caribbean... Open app, shows what you can choose from.... Like here is your fta list... Choices you can subscribe too and what you need to be able to get the signal before you can sub, I need radio... Ya know what I mean?

Does anyone see a use for something like that? Or maybe a better question, has anyone ever found them in such a situation where such an app/website would have been beneficial?
