What kind of Hopper is this?

But once you activate it, you have to pay DVR fees when they clearly won't work on the receiver. Is it worth it?
If I activate it, Dish might send me a working one as a free replacement. I would like to see if I could get this one to work again, though. I have had a 501 (and more recently, a ViP722k) recover from hard drive failure before. Last year, another Satelliteguys member sent me a flaky ViP211, and I got it to work for a few more months before it died again. It is a hobby of mine.

Whoops, I confused the two of you! My apologies... :redface
Not the first time that has happened. ;)

I would say chances are (Based on the fact better than 99% of dish equipment is Leased not owned) it is a Lease that someone did not turn in so even if it worked I do not think you could activate it.

It is NOT a leased item. You must have missed my post that I called Denver corporate, they ran the RID and smart card and it is owned.

I am not worried. I have a contact at Dish corporate who could probably get it activated outside of Dish's normal protocol, anyway. I did read the first post, and I have dealt with comfortably_numb before, so I trust him.

Future reference:
Hopper Blockbuster= Hopper 2000
Hopper Sling= Hopper with Sling
Hopper3 with Sling= Hopper3

Hope this settles it in the future.

Edit to add Crod’s point, which is entirely accurate.

...and if it just says "Hopper" and has the red racing stripe, it is a Hopper Duo. Now the list is complete.

Disconnected my H3 and connected the coax to this mystery Hopper. It boots up but then says “hard drive failure.” I can close out of the error screen and watch live TV, though. Guess that’s why it was in his closet! Looks like it’s going to the dumpster.
Don't throw it away i will take it
