I just got an email from a contact about a new receiver called the 622 and that details about it would be available on Wednesday or Thursday.

Anyone got any further insight?

Kinda odd to see YOU ask that, Scott! If anything, we usually get info. from you.

Well at first thought, I'd think that this is another iteration of the 522, maybe with an ethernet jack built in but other than that, I'd say it's another dual-room DVR.

Or, it might be one of those MDU-only receivers with a funky model number that us regular subs will never use. I don't think I've heard of this model mentioned anywhere on CNET. A google search yields a hit but it's actually for a 522 that they mislabeled as a 622, but otherwise nada.

maybe... (going out on a limb) its the mpg 4 version of the 942.. Or maybe its 522 remans?? renamed... or its the 625 revamped..???? or as summit said an mdu version of the 625/522... I havent heard of it either.... :) Let us know what you find out scott. :)

perhaps an MPEG4 replacement for the 522/625? Makes sense that they would redo an SD DVR it in the same fashion as the 411/211.

I would hope Dish would be thinking "All new receivers need to be HD and MPEG4 capable". The longer they ignore a combined HD/SD universal receiver, the more it will cost them in the future.

That said, I hope the 622 would be the new base DVR, to include HD capabilities.

Well... I suppose you can do SD in MPEG4 and create a DVR out of it, like the 522/625, but is it economical to do that vs. an MPEG4 HD DVR? If it's going to be an MPEG4 HD DVR, I'd rather wish they call it a 9xx. The 411/211 is several numbers down from the 811 but I'd rather (my vote) that E* make the HD DVR's 9xx series. My 2 cents.

Current firmwares being streamed by Dish Network:

FW:ALG1, Model:DP111.
FW:L260, Model:DP411.
FW:ABE1, Model:DPxxx.
FW:1116, Model:DP942.
This was sampled yesterday. Notice the "DPxxx" model. Also firmware for the 2wire media portal has been seen streaming.
Maybe dish doesnt want to continue the 9xx line, and instead has gone with the 6xx line.

522 and 622 being typed instead of 625 could easily be done. It will be interesting what the 622 receiver will be, an MPEG-4 receiver or just the 625 with an ethernet port for IPTV VOD.

That one does look like a typo, but that is not the one I saw. It was about 4 weeks ago, it was just a mention of an upcoming receiver from Dish. At the time, I didn't check the date of the article and figured they meant 522 and that it was an older article.

Of coure now I can't find it and all I can find is the wirelessmike one.

Wouldn't it be amazing if Dish could actually bring out a new receiver that no one had heard of and no mention had been made, even as a rumor?

Interesting to see three different firmware versions for the 942... Please, Charlie, may we have unlimited external HD support for Christmas?

I see what you are saying, but if it is E* plan for all receivers to accept SD and HD, they will still have to have an "entry-level" or "inexpensive" DVR for regular SD folks. Their current trend is whatever the current HD-DVR is be in the $500-$700 range. That pricetag would never fly, I wouldn't think, with the general SD population.

Wouldn't that be a really stupid move to bring out an SD MPEG-4 DVR? The whole purpose for MPEG-4 is to swich over to HD.

If Dish HD was full rez would you oppose lease options?
