What is possible?

As far as the highest possible signal by satellite TV, what is possible? I'm sure 1080p is possible although there is not enough content to really broadcast in 1080p (or is there? IDK) but what is the highest?

Satellite internet is really slow so I'd imagine there are better ways of receiving a higher res TV signal.

I've heard that a 1080p signal compresses pretty good, so its bandwidth is not nearly double that of 1080i. So a TP which would currently carry 6 - 7 HD channels, could likely carry about 3 or 4 1080p channels.

But hey, everything I know I read here on the internet, so I'm sure someone has some numerical facts out there somewhere. I don't expect to see any networks going 1080p anytime soon, but I could see it happening for VOD/PPV movies and events. Not sure if the video chips that are in the dbs receivers are 1080p capable either.

I doubt if we'll see any 1080p signals anytime soon. It just isnt necessary for the bandwidth you use. 98% of the people out there except zit popping d&d geeks wouldn't even notice.
