I am hunting through lyngsat and I am seeing a whole lot of DVB encryption.

What is DVB?

What do you need to view DVB encrypted channels?

DVB = Digital Video Broadcast(ing)
and the encryption method used should be listed direct under that DVB designation. (such as Nagravison 2) Also, if no encryption is shown, the Lyngsat color coding will describe more about the listing.

With FTA can you only view the "F" (free) channels or can you also view DVB or other video encryption channels (Nagravision...etc)?

Terms are somewhat interchangeable. FTA "free to air" just describes the dvb signals that are not scrambled. You'll see receivers called dvb boxes, fta receiver, etc. same animal...

DVB is the type of digital satellite data stream most receivers are able to tune in, Digicipher II being the other type. DVB is not itself encryption, but a DVB stream can be encrypted via Nagravision, PowerVu, Irdeto, etc. Our FTA receivers can tune in unencrypted DVB, but not Digicipher II (or encrypted DVB such as Nagravision, PowerVu, Irdeto, etc.)

On Lyngsat, an 'F' next to a channel on a DVB transponder means you can receive that channel. An 'F' next to a Digicipher II transponder means a channel most of us can't watch (unless you have a commercial grade DCII receiver such as the Digitrans 7150/Motorola DSR 4800)...
