What is a "tag" and why can't I post?

Every time I try to start a new topic I get an error message that says I've used one too many tags in my post, then I have to keep messing around with the wording deleting and rewording until I get rid of whatever it is the system has flagged as a tag. Problem is, I don't know what a tag is. What is it?

yeah i've had it happen often to me

you can remove some of the tags from the box below the post when it gives you this error

i think the tags are used for searches

I dont know why it does this, and others have mentioned them same issue on other sites runing the same software.

I consider it an unfixed bug in the forum software.

It happens to me here, quite frequently. But typically only when I copy a URL into a post.

Ok it should not happen anymore. I just got some code which fixed that bug so I patched that code here which takes care of that issue.

I had this issue quite a bit when starting threads and it was extremely annoying.

I'm trying to post in a different forum and getting this error message

1. You do not have permission to create tags. You may only use existing tags.

I'm not creating anything but a normal post, I don't even know what tags are....

Any help here?

I think ( and i'm guessing ) that its looking for common words that you use in your post that will aid/help/speed up searches

I get this error when trying to start a thread:

Tags cannot be overly common words (now).

The word "now" is in the title, but there is not a box to display tags..

Looks like another vBulletin bug. Tags are turned off now, so it shouldn't even be asking for them..
