what dish needed

if i wanted to get direct could i use a fta dish i think its a "22 or do i need to get a direct tv dish with the 3 lnb's on it? i am going to be getting the hd pkg awell, kinda new to all this and have no idea really,
used to have dish so i was hitting 110.119.129 dont know if direct has kinda the same thing or what?
any help and info would be great

Directv will supply the dish you need. I don't think a FTA dish will work.

FYI, DirecTV uses satellites at 99, 101, and 103. 110 and 119 don't have much anymore.

DIRECTV 5 (110W) would seem to be completely empty at this time. The maps say that it still carries MPEG2 HD streams, but I kinda doubt it.

Those hd channels on 110 are still used by commercial accounts from what I have read here.

What you need for a virgin install is this guy:

DIRECTV AU9-SL3 Three LNB Ka/Ku Slim Line Dish Antenna and SL-3 LNB Combo (AU9-SL3) - DIRECTV Slim Line - AU9-SL3 -

It's got all three LNBs integrated into a single feedhorn with an integrated multiswitch that can feed four tuners straight from the dish. It picks up sats at 99, 101 and 103 W, so that's all the arc you need.

If you're getting a DVR get an HR-24, they're the latest and greatest.

Dunno how you plan to activate, but good luck.
