What are transponders for?

In south Texas, What are the transponders for?? We never know which ones to look at while aiming the dish.

No I meant the transponder on the dish aiming screen on dish network. It gives you the choice of satellite 110 119 etc., then also the transponders. Sometime on will say Spot beam. any ideas??

This is what I whink you're looking for....certain channels are on certain transponders. Just try to find signal on transponder 11 for both sats.

I would recommend different approach - tune to 'home' transponders first, ie those what carry software for download:
61.5W - 29, 105W - 7, 110W - 21, 119W - 19, 121W - 21, 129W - 17, 148W - 19.
