87W 40N
ok, so it warmed up alittle today, so i thought i'd play with the sat. i thought i had it set for true south, and was looking for 87w. borrowed a 19" tv, carried everything outside, hooked up the "l" side of the qph-031 straight to the receiver, receiver to tv, set lnbf to single (coolsat6000 doesn't have standard) and 10750, found sat 87w on tv, and level was about 82, but quality wouldn't go past 7! i moved the dish and motor all over and couldn't get anything! so i went back to true south, picked sat 91w, and got the same level, but quality went to 31! so i thought i might be getting somewhere. i hooked up the motor with the sat on 91w, turned it back to 87w, unhooked the motor and turned the setup back to 91w, and got my 31 signal again, hooked the motor back up, and pointed at 87w, motor went back to 0, (true south?) but had the same readings as before. so, with the motor still hooked up, i picked sat ia-5 @ 97w, and WOW! quality scale turned green reading between 88-92! so i did a auto scan and got about 86 channels (mostly with $ signs) and about 15 music channels. i haven't checked any other sats yet. so, what am i doing wrong that i can't get 87w??? and so far, i haven't found the screen to setup the "c" side. then it got dark and i quit till tomorrow. any ideas?

it doesnt sound like you are on the L side of the LNB because you are getting a bunch of scrambled channels.

The info for the coolsat is right (single, 10750)

You have to pick an active transponder to get quality. If you think you are close, do a blind scan. Scan "All" and let it scan. It will pick up the active frequencies/channels wherever you are. Then check it up against lyngsat or http://www.global-cm.net/MPEGlistKuBandUS.html and see where you are. That works easier in my opinion :)

thanks iceberg. on the lnb, it has c,l,c,l, i ran a cable straight from the l side to the receiver to start with. i only hooked up the motor to try to get me at true south, then unhooked it again. it wouldn't matter which "l" port i ran the cable from would it?

nah. Both L output the same

in your other thread, you mentioned your longitude was at 85. I'd aim the dish straight south and do a blind scan. Just let it scan and see what it picks up. There are feeds usually on AMC2 and I'll PM you one that is a test card that is up there.

Once you get your true south, the rest comes easy :)

AMC3 next door has a few channels on it but lets get the true south set first.

thanks, i really appreciate the help!! i got your pm, and the link to global was very informitive! got everything printed out! when i was on ia-5, i think i just did an auto scan and didn't pay attention to what tp it was, i know the $ channels didn't have picture, but had sound. i did see some foreign gal complain about the wind messin her hair up! thought that was kinda neat! lol..i'll give this a try tommorow. thanks for all your help! i'm sure i'll be back!

an auto scan just scans what transponders are logged in the system on that satellite. A Blind scan will find everything where ever you are aimed regardless of satellite.

ALso helps find the feeds :)

thats why i think i just did an auto scan when i was on ia-5, i only got 86 channels and 15 music channels which was mostly "patterns" with $ signs and i guess names of the channels on the bottom. i know there was a (something) espn channel (like trk-espn, something like that) i could hear the game, but no picture. i think i might be headed in the right direction, i'll give it a try! thanks again!!

OK then you did have the L side hooked up so we know that works :)

When you try tomorrow, hopefully you can hit something that will show a picture :)

well, got out today and tried it again. my receiver doesn't have amc-2 on it! so i did a blind scan on amc-3, and picked up a few channels (mostly $ signs again). the one thing i didn't think about checking was the channels on the sat with the channel chart from lyngsat to see if i WAS on amc-3. (i'll have to do that in the morning). so how do you get satellites in the receiver? can you put them in manually or do you have to download files? i've looked in the manual, and all it says is i got a connector to download files, but doesn't even say where from! also, when i aim at 87w (amc-3), i don't get any higher than a 7 on the q-bar, but the level will be around 97. after i did a blind scan, the channels i did get, all had a green bar with about 88-92 reading with a good pic and sound.

well one of my coolsat 5k acts like this.
the STB (coolsat) comes loaded from the factory with a basic load of information , this information might be current and it might be old. hence some of the satellite names have changed. also as with most FTA channels they move around a bit. so the loaded Transponder might have changed.

My coolsat 5k will not lite green for signal quality unless its been entered manually or the preloaded TP is exactly correct.

If your pulling in the channels listed with a $ those are usually the stronger channels. you might need to tweak the signal a bit.

now that you have a green lite on some of those channels goto the info button and copy down the TP # . then goto the motor setup menu. and look at the second entry it should be transponders with a number inside () these are stored transponders. and arrow left & right lets you select transponders scan left or right until you find the one you have a signal for. it will lite at the bottom. then using the move arrow (this is usually the second one for small increments and is only lite up when in 1.2 motor mode) this allows you to slightly move the dish left or right to gain a better signal.

if you know the tp your wanting to receive you can enter it manually from the setup screen also.

hope this helps

to manually add a satellite
-install
-dish install (first one on list)
-scroll down to end of satellite list and there should be some that show "0.0E"
-pick one and rename (red button)
-enter LO info (10750), etc and save

to manually add a transponder to that satellite
-install
-manual scan
-select AMC2
-add info to transponder. They symbol rate has to be entered with a 0 in front if its 4 digits (06111 as an example)

yea, i've seen that screen, i thought there had to be away to do it, but the manual doesn't say anything about it! i think i might be getting it setup pretty good anyway. i quit using the q-meter and started lookin at the level meter. when the level got to be around 97, the q-meter never did go past 7, so i just did a blind scan on 87w and on the channels i picked up, the meter turned green. then i did alittle tweeking and all my channels are about 94-98 on the scale! i then checked the channels with lyngsat to make sure i had the right channels on the right sat. everything's lookin good so far! the only other sat i messed with was ia-5, so i got alot more playin around to do :) THANKS for all your help!!
