I had posted this in the wrong place earlier.
So much for New Guys, right!

I have a 10ft. "Perfect 10" offset dish in perfect shape. I'm looking at a Coolsat 6000 Premium Digital receiver.

Question 1. Is the Coolsat 6000 a good receiver fo C/Ku Band?

Question 2. My dish has analog technics, will I have to obtain a digital lnb before I can pick up a signal, if I use the digital receiver?

I just obtained the dish and am trying to get all of my equipment together before I start to instal everything.

Just asking the ones that know!
Thanks

1. yes that receiver will work fine. I use the 5000 (pretty much the same thing) for both C-Band & KU

2. Most LNB's will work fine. I guess the questions to ask are
a. is the dish going to be motorized?
b. if "yes" how is that going to be done? Are you using an analog box to move it or are you getting a V-Box to move it...the V-Box allows FTA receivers to move a big dish

If the LNB has 3 wires sticking out of a blue box then it only gets one polarity at a time and the analog box would control polarity. If you are not using an analog box then you would want to upgrade the LNB setup

I bought a used Coolsat 6000 locally for $30. I think it is a nice unit, with some features wrt blindscan and setup that are slightly better than my Coolsat 7000.

It really depends on the price and what features you want. Check the review section, particularly the Visionsat IV-200. It can be had on eBay (search "visionsat dvr") new for around $90 and was reviewed very favorably. It has PVR capability which is a very nice feature to have. Note that it is not listed as supported by Channel Master.

I have also used a Coolsat 6100 and they can be had locally new for $105. I prefer it to the 6000 as it has USB which makes updating the code (infrequently) easy, and copying the channel list (frequently) to edit with Channel Master simple.

Unless you're getting the Coolsat 6000 for cheap I would consider a receiver with USB support, Channel Master editing support, PVR support if you can get it.

Often it seems like you have to pick between PVR support & Channel Master support. My Coolsat 7000, for example, doesn't use the NDF format that Channel Master supports on Coolsats.

On the other hand, Channel Master support isn't that critical if your receiver allows you to fully customize the satellite names, positions and transponders. It is mostly useful if you want to edit the list the satellites you can pickup and want to customize the names of channels. Instead of "FEED" you can have "God TV" for example. It is really easy to set all the LNB, DiSEqC, USALS, and other settings for each satellite from your PC rather than IR remote. :)

So I think the Coolsat 6000 is good if it is cheap, but you might consider the 6100 if the price isn't that different, or a PVR unit like the Visionsat IV200 which can still be had on eBay.

Don't have C-band, but I do have a coolsat 6000 and love it. Unless you're wanting PVR it's a pretty good receiver.

On the whole my C 6000 is the better of my receivers. Compared to the Merc II it has better organized software and the remote is much better. One important downside - the true factory software does not have an audible tone to help with tuning, so I had to get another rcvr that does have an audible signal. Both of them deal equally well with C and Ku signals.

Being new at this I will need to learn more about Channel Master, PVR, and other support.
I hope to get the 6000 for around $35.
It's only been used for a short time and comes with all the goodies including the remote.

Thanks for the info. Now I know what I need to learn next, "Support".
