What a way to start the weekend...

Just sat down after a hard week at work, got a cold drink, turned on the TV and OpenBox S9 receiver, switched to the motorized KU band 4' dish only to find that the dish doesn't turn and there is no signal on any channel. The system worked fine just a few days ago. Because I still receive AMC3 on the 8' stationary dish I know both the receiver and DISEQC switch are working correctly. Most likely another LNBF went bad or worse yet the SG2100 motor.

Last year I had two Spitfire Elite LNBF's go bad, but now I have a Satellite AV Bullet LNBF installed which has been working great since last fall.

Hey, but what would you do if you didn't have to work on your "stuff"? Just sit around and have "cold" drinks all day tomorrow? Ask me how that works? ;-) You know you love it though, don't you! I just love having stuff that the "average joe" doesn't have a clue about! After all, we ALL would be money ahead to just have a sub and be done with it. But again, what fun is that?

I LOVE my FTA stuff and always will until it's no longer available!

since you have the diseqc between the receiver and motor....how do you know it isnt the diseqc switch? Ports can blow out

I went outside and looked at the motor while the receiver was on and saw no green light.

The last time I know it worked was last Saturday night. Since then there was no lightening, but it did rain Monday and Tuesday. Perhaps moisture got into the connections.

Can a single port go bad on a DISEQC switch Ice? My 8' is attached to port 1 and is working fine. The 4' motorized dish is attached to port 3.

Question: God forbid the motor has died after 8 years of heavy use on my 120cm Channel Master dish what motor model would be a good replacement? Or should I purchase another SG2100? Even though the 120cm Channel Master dish is heavier than the SG2100 motor is rated it has worked flawless for 8 years.

I've got 4 switches here...all have one port blown.

You say the C-Band is on port 1 and works...yet the KU is on 3 and doesn't. If a switch goes completely port 1 will work regardless. I'd remove the switch temporarily and see if the motor/LNB works

I believe Iceberg was correct. After 8 years my SG2100 motor lives on! :)

Not wanting to wait until tomorrow (you know Satellite Guys can't sleep when problems like this occur :)) I turned off the power to the OpenBox S9 receiver and moved the 4' KU dish coax from port 3 to port 2 on the diseqc switch. I then turned back on the OpenBox S9 receiver and changed the port setting to port 2 and the signal returned!!! I then set another satellite to use port 2 and the dish moved successfully to the other satellite.

This might be a dumb question but...

Within the settings screen of the OpenBox S9 receiver I set the diseqc port (1-4) using diseqc1.0 and have diseqc1.1 disabled. Is this correct? I'm asking, because I looked at the options within the diseqc1.1 setting and ports 1-4 can be set as well as others.

I now also don't know if port 3 was indeed blown or if simply powering down the receiver and turning it back on resolved the problem. I'll do more testing tomorrow to confirm. At least I'll be able to sleep tonight knowing my SG2100 motor is still working.

There have been a lot of '2100 clone motors sold over the years.
Enough of 'em have been garbage, that I'd be very careful before buying anything with that designation any more.

Glad to hear it's still swingin' the 4'er around! :)
I'll assume you did some mods to lighten the load (there are a lot of great bracket ideas buried in the forum!)

I've been very happy with the SG2100 motor. I've painted it several times during the years and when I do it looks like I just bought it and took it out of the box. I want to paint it once again this spring and reinstall it using all new stainless steel hardware.

Yes, I did perform modifications to lighten the load. I have a thread about it on here somewhere from about 7 years ago.

Nobody answered my question about diseqc 1.0 vs. diseqc 1.1. After reading this (DiSEqC - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) I believe using diseqc 1.0 within the OpenBox S9 settings is just fine. Using diseqc 1.1 offers additional port support, but is there really an advantage to me disabling diseqc 1.0 and using ports 1-4 within the diseqc 1.1 settings?

Diseqc 1.1 allows a 8x1 diseqc switch to be used. Since the SSO only shows ports 1-4 on diseqc 1.1 it wont work with a uncommitted switch (digiwave 8x1). It would work with an emp-centauri switch but to make ports 5-8 work you would need to set it up as the manual says. So like for port 6 it would be
diseqc 1.0 port 3
diseqc 1.1 port 2

or something like that. Visionsat is one that has ports 1-16 on the Diseqc 1.1 platform so set up is a breeze. Have a LNB on port 7? Set up diseqc 1.1 port 7 diseqc 1.0 off (or default to port 1)

Diseqc 1.1 allows a 8x1 DiSEqC switch to be used. Since the SSO only shows ports 1-4 on DiSEqC 1.1 it wont work with a uncommitted switch (digiwave 8x1).

Ice,

Ports 1 thru 16 are in there, just a little hard to find.
Select Diseqc 1.1
On the sub menu toggle UP
They are under the 2 cascades section.

Working my Digiwave 8X1 just fine.
