Welcome Pack

I got a question. I thought I read on these forums a while ago that you can only go to the Welcome Pack once. In other words, you can go to the Welcome Pack but if you then in the future sometime go back to like AT120, you couldn't go back to the Welcome Pack again. Is that true?

I thought it was more of a issue requiring you to be an existing customer (under no commitment) and owning your own equipment. I upgraded to AT120 recently but my understanding was I could go back to the Welcome Package anytime. Like I said, though, I own all of my equipment.

Dish Network had discontinued the Welcome Pack for a while and people who were currently on this package were grandfathered in. Customers could keep the package until they changed the programming and then would not have the option to go back to it. Dish Network has restored the Welcome Pack on 2-1-11, to existing customers only. New customers will not be able to chose this package. Hope this helps!!

Just to clarify this , will existing customers be able to upgrade and then downgrade as they may need without having to talk to the retention dept? will they be able to call a regular csr and be able to get the welcome package back if they need to? As an example. I may want the AEP for a few months but then want to be able to go back to the Welcome Pack, will I be able to do that without any trouble, other than maybe a downgrade fee? thanks

As long as there is no commitment on the account, programming can be changed to the welcome pack by any CSR. There will only be a downgrade fee if the change is made with 30 days of another programming change. After 30 days there is no charge to change programming on an account. We can also assist with programming changes, if you PM any of the team members. Have a great day!

Cool so if I upgrade to DA Silver or Gold, I get to keep MSNBC right?

You can only have one core package on an account. If you upgrade to another package, it cannot be added to the welcome pack but will replace it. I hope I am understanding your question correctly. Just let me know!! Thanks!

Of course you don't understand the question, you work for Dish network. MSNBC is in welcome pack, and listed on DISH site as an available channel in DA Silver and Gold. So when REPLACING Welcome with DA Silver and GOLD, MSNBC HD will be showing on the screen right?

You may want to look at this thread for an answer to your question. http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-forum/242598-msnbc-cooking-dish-america-gold.html
You should make your decision fully informed of the issues with the packages you are wanting to upgrade too. Have a nice night!!

I was a customer for over 12 years and and owned my own equipment. I had at200 until I went to locals only for six months and then canceled. Could I sign up for the Welcome Pack?

If you still own your equipment and can do the install yourself, you qualify for an "Activation Account". We would have to build the account under the AT120 and once it is built, it can be switched to the "Welcome Pack". If you need any help with this, just PM me and I will happy to help you!

Thanks for the reply. So I just have to sign up for the AT120 and as soon as that is done they can switch it to the Welcome Pack without a charge?

You work for Dish and can't understand or answer a question. Why are you here?

It seems like you're the one who has a problem understanding and it's now painfully obvious why you're here. No, MSNBC will not show on your screen if you change to Dish America Gold or Silver. If you bothered reading the thread Mary pointed you to, it's unbelievably simple to see that no one with either package sees MSNBC on their screens rights now. I'd say nice try, but it really wasn't.

She still has not answered the question. I understand very well.

As of right now, no you will not get the channel. This will be fixed pretty soon however. If you read the thread that Mary had provided a link for, it's about the channels that are supposed to be there, but are not authorizing. This is a known issue that MSNBC is not authorizing in DA Gold and Silver, but it should be. Tony and I have been following the problem since day 1, poking and prodding for a fix which should happen soon (I can't give the date because the fix may not work).

Does that answer your question?

Thanks Speedy, thats the kind of response I expect. Great Job.

For now it looks like its better to stay with the Welcome Pack. At least I keep MSNBC and pay less!

A friend of mine tried activating a new account today with Welcome pack...
and they said they no longer carried that pack!!!
Cheapest they could offer was Dish America for $34.99
I guess they think cheap packs aren't good business for Dishnetwork....

You or your friend needs to do a little research. It's $24.99 for the first Year. I'm sure he or she was told that.

Further, as stated in this thread the Welcome pack is for current customers. And your remark about cheap packs and Dish gave me a chuckle. Their lower priced packs are overall cheaper with more channels than almost anyone else. Neither Charter, or Fios, or Brighthouse (the ones I am familiar with) have anything as good as the Dish lowest packages.

I'm not an expert on programming (not a dealer) but he owns the IRD and he was charged with $34.99 they didn't allow down grade after he had D.A.

anyway the $24.99 is good only for 12 months, after that the real price must be paid...

My personal opinion is that if you as a provider (Dishnetwork) offer more choices you will serve different social leyers...

for example:

there might be a market for people that only need locals (networks ($10)); there also might be people that are good with welcome pack ($15) and also there might be people that are happy with Family pack ($25)......none of them can be served with any of those packs anymore.... now any of them will have no other choice than Dish America ($34.99 real final price).

The thing that bothers me the most is that the explanation given was that he was eastern arc and he had MPEG 4 IRD......very poor argument.
