Not on MY computer at least, this is a laptop I've been asked to diagnose, Windows XP Home. Norton Internet Security 2005 shows a red X in the taskbar, and any of the settings screens come up completely blank. I have searched for this issue and only found something about reinstalling windows scripting. Already scanned it for virii and spyware, everything is clean.

Anybody solved this one before? What can I do?

It sounds like you need to uninstall and reinstall Norton. If you do this make sure you do a complete uninstall from the registry as well.

Already been there, done that.

I'm just about ready to install Symantec AV corporate edition on there, and if that works, tell the user they don't need the other features of NIS since XPSP2 has a firewall and popup blocker.

Take a look at these to see if they help.

P.S. The XP firewall & pop-up tools are crap and will leave you vulnerable and will disable some much needed features as well. Disable all the XP provided tools and stick with the Norton.

Yeah, thanks, but I had already tried all that too.

It would be hard for me to say which one is more crap than the other, the stuff that comes with XP, or the stuff from Symantec that embeds itself deeply into the system then breaks for no apparent reason and requires a super-techie person to resurrect. All other things being equal I tend to go with the one that is simpler and cheaper.
