I honestly have no room beside my TV for a component shelf, so I have my 921 and my DVD player setting on top my TV, I've wondered if the weight of these would be a problem.....after a year it doesn't seem to be?
The particles board up there looks like it's at least a 1/2 " thick.

I've heard arguments each way on this.

What I did is put a 3/4" board across the top(not particle board) so that it would support what I put on it. I thought about blocking each end so that the center would be suspended and the weight would be pushing down on each side and not the middle. I have a PSB 9C center that weighs in at 25# directly in the middle.

If you are concerned, then you may want to migrate your electronics to each side and leave the center open if you don't want to possibly warp the cabinet. I would say that it may warp over time being that particle board is inherently weaker than natural lumber.

Better to be safe than sorry.

I have my center channel speaker on top of my 65s700. The speaker is farely large and I have not had any issues at all.
