I see everyone saying that they can just drop TWC, and although that sounds like a good plan, if Comcast owns it... Comcast may make a Fox play and demand they carry it in order to renegotiate on some of their other channels(lol still in contract if they wanna Murdoch it).

i talked to accuweather on twitter and they would like to come dish network i told them they need to broadcast in HD and create a app i told them it would be greatly appreciated.
Sure they would ! I can assure you, any TV network will always want to get on every provider that they can !
Did they also tell you that they will pass on your request about an app ?
I guess if you are really curious about weather all around the country this is nice to have and it probably didn't cost Dish much to provide it. I'm sure it's great to have a 24 hour national source for weather junkies. I'm not sure why the average person would turn to a national source that will most likely be talking about a storm half way across the country instead of weather that is relevant to their local area though.
I do like Weather Nation but I prefer the version broadcast on my local ABC affiliate's subchannel though. That version shows national weather too but they mix in local weather from local meteorologists every so often. If I want to hear severe storm information that is actually relevant to me that's a much better source.

Yep, smartphones are pretty useful with this too. I usually get severe weather alerts from The Weather Channel app on my iPhone before I hear about them from any other source. If a tornado warning is issued it's nice to have that instant alert. From there I can turn on the TV or radio to hear more detailed information.
Don't forget, Dish created The Weather Cast. I feel it was Charlie's ploy to say that if (then) NBC Universal didn't play ball, he was ready to just slap together a service of his own. This time, he's telling Comcast to go screw, there's another quality service who will give what viewers want.
People who have only have/had satellite TV don't know that TWC does, or used to, provide actual local weather. Anyone remember "locals on the 8s" ? When I check "local" weather using the TWC app on Dish, the radar, for example, covers as far northwest as Wisconsin. That is regional, not local. I'm located ~40 miles north of Cincinnati ! Yes, it does give 'local' weather via the graphics but that's no different than a website or phone app provides today.
If you had cable TV 5+ years ago, what TWC showed was very, very much different.
If Comcast does that I hope they force Premier League Xtra Time as well

I feel like it's cheating to include NC in Southeast...why not do a midatlantic with NC, TN, KY, VA, etc? NC and FL together just feels wrong.

Those that continually want to compare a TV channel to a weather app on a smart phone, or web site keep missing the point! TV is passive. You turn it on at the push of a button, and you tune in with 3 button pushes on the same remote. From that point forward you can do anything and leave the weather playing in the background. You look and it's there. With apps and web sites you have to actively seek the web site/start the app look up the info requiring total attention. It's easy to do, but, at least for me, it's two or three minutes where I would have been getting ready for work, or doing other things.

Unfortunately those are going away one by one as stations that get a snapshot of people watching see they never have a large audience (Negligible audience is what the last local station with a weather sub-channel in this market said). It's true, the audience is negligible at any one given instant. However, I guarantee that a significant number of people tuned to the channel for a few minutes throughout the day!

The person from WHIO that I discussed this with implied that they had all levels of viewing data. It's a weather channel so they know people aren't going to watch it for 30 minutes or 60 minutes like a TV show or news broadcast, so they knew they had to count viewers who only watched for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, etc. There simply wasn't enough viewers watching for any period of time. Remember, they still ran commercials too, so one can't claim they dropped it for $$$ reasons. Well, in fact, they still did because the tiny number of viewers wasn't helping them sell commercial time.

You say it's just a couple pushes of a button, and you have the weather there, compared to finding it in a smart phone taking 3-4 minutes? It takes me under 10 seconds to get my local weather, the weather for Nm where my Gma lives, weather from NC where my GF is, and weather from the multiple duty stations I held throughout my time in the military. It takes me much longer to load up the weather app, or remember what channel TWC is on, and none of me doing it on my smart phone interrupts my TV viewing. TV weather channels are about as relevant as TV 24 hour news channels. They are unneeded and only for those that really want to confirm their bias after the accessibility of the Internet via smartphones and tablets.
I was going to post a similar question and thought maybe it was a silly question since I thought I was the only one. I do not have a Hopper and block channel 100, 298 (I think the premium add-one), PPV, etc. that gives account access or access to charge PPV, etc.
