My question is there a least expensive upgrade to directv H20 dvr.then the $299 lease/unit. I currently have Directv in 2 rooms each supplied with different set-ups. One room has a H-20 receiver, Directv standard receiver & Tivo Series 2 DVR (with lifetime subcription). The other room has H-20 receiver, Directv R-10 Tivo receiver. My wife loves her 140hr Series 2 tivo and is not going to give it up, so I need to know if it will work with Directv H-20 DVR, and I do understand it will not record in HD. For what it is worth these units are wired through a 2 dish system, one is the 5 LNB, the other 3 LNB. I own the 3 LNB dish, R-10 & 1 H-20. I lease 5 LNB dish, 1 H-20. Please fill free to make suggestions on this set-up short of giving up on the series 2 Tivo, it's just not an option. I do appreciate your help on this matter.

So, the sat comes into the rec and then to the TV and you have a connection between the receiver and the TIVO series 2 to do your recording ?

In about a week, D* will be dropping the price of the HR20's to $199 leased .....
Is this more to your liking ?
also, why the two seperate dish setups, I would condense the situation if it were me. Run everything off the newer 5 LNB set up and have them set up a multiswitch if you need more than 4 tuners. (2 tuners in the newer DVR's)

I would rec. getting the HR20 when the price drops, then you can record rigth from the D* unit and not have to set up the rec to turn on as well as the TIVO to turn on and record at the same time.

Let your wife keep her set up and you get the new set up, get aquanted with how it works and then see if she doesn't like it better.
Going from a TIVO to the D* set up will take some getting use to, give it the appropriate time and you will like it :)

I already had the 3 lnb dish when the new H-20 came out with a 5 lnb dish. Because I live in a condo where the only way you are able to have a satellite dish is if it is not visible over our patio fence. Our installer suggest a duel hook-up because each dish points in a little different direction and we would not need a splitter. When the weather becomes bad sometimes one dish will lose it signal but the other doesn't. I do agree with you in that one dish would clean the area up a little.
