Can someone help me?
I have a DishNet 622 & 722. I would like to have OTA avail to both receivers and all TV's in the house. Currenlty I have 2 signal combiners (one for each DVR) and on the back of each DVR is a splitter to tuner 1 & tuner 2.
Can I add an OTA antenna and split the signal out at the receiver? Also I would like the OTA and TV2 channels to be avail to other TV's in the home.

I really want to do this without running additional COAX to the DVR's

Is this even possible?

Thanks for everyones help

Possible YES, hard to do with the little information you have provided. Really need location TV antenna you will be using , how many TVs, what is the existing distribution system?

The only way that I have had success doing this is when I took the channel 3 output from my old 508, routed it through the VHF leg of a Radio Shack hybrid VHF/UHF splitter, and put an OTA UHF antenna on the UHF leg. I had to seriously amplify the channel 3 signal to reduce signal degradation around the house, but it worked. The only drawback was that only UHF OTA channels were available to all TVs in the house. You could also use a Channel Master Jointenna to accomplish the same thing, allowing all OTA channels to pass, except for channel 3 or 4. It seems the best results would be with a VHF channel as the source. This rules out the internal RF modulator in the 622/722 as it only outputs in the UHF range. I am not sure, but I think the 722k has a channel 3/4 RF modulator. You could always use an external RF modulator to accomplish the same thing on your current 622/722.

It can be done, I did it and didn't amplify the sat tv2 out and it looks like crap on a 37" lcd. Luckily I mostly watch the news, jay leno and late night ota. and then listen to cnbc while I get ready for work.

I've got my OTA antenna combined with my TV2 output from both my 622 & 722 and it works fine. Simply use an ordinary splitter in reverse at the receiver. TV2 out to one side of the "out" of the splitter, your OTA antenna to the other "out". Connect your existing TV2 coax to the "in" of the splitter. I've been told that this is a no-no 'cause it'll broadcast to other homes in the neighborhood but I took a 13" TV in the back yard and it didn't pick up anything from my amplified outdoor antenna--plus I live in the country anyway. You might have to experiment with different modulator/channel settings if you have poor PQ. Mine works great. NO "graininess".

If you screw the little attenuator that came with your receiver into the coax from your antenna before it goes into the splitter, you meet FCC regulations (I believe). Keeps it from back-feeding the satellite signal out to your antenna.

Hey guys, new poster here. I have the same problem and know way more than I wanted to by now..........that being said I think all the information here is awesome.

I have been trying this maneuver unsuccessfully. I have listed a couple details with questions below. Hopefully someone can ofer some advice:

--When you folks are talking a splitter, should it be the splitter that has ant. on one saide and sat. on the other side or just a regular splitter?

--should the OTA in to the 722 be split off so one side still goes into the box and the other goes into the splitter coming out of the TV2 output?

Any guidance would be helpful......loss of OTA is not good. Thanks

Standard splitters (usually costs under $2) what you are describing with the ant and sat is a diplexer. That is not what you need.

You need two splitters: you run OTA to the in on first one, one out goes to OTA input on the receiver. The second splitter is used in reverse with the rf out on the receiver going to one of the outs. The second out on the first splitter goes to the second out on the second splitter. The coax run to the second tv goes to the in on the second splitter. You also have to make sure the modulation on the receiver is the same as the tuner on the second tv ie: rf modulation set to air = tv set to analog/digital (not cable).

I perosnally never had much luck using the splitter in reverse. I used an amplified combiner/splitter that I bought on ebay. It combines the ota signal & the tv2 output, amplifies the "combined" signal. These units were available in 4 or 8 distribution points. I use the 8 & it works perfectly.

If you need to split the signal to 8 coaxes, it would need to be amped due to losing signal quality into that many lines. Splitting into two usually does not need a boost.

Thank you for the feedback. I went and got the correct parts today. I installed them as per your instructions, though I still have no OTA channles on TV2. They do not even show up on the guide, and the "local channles" box the menu is grayed out so I can not even select it!

The only thing I can think of that is different is the output of TV2 from the receiver is output line "Home Distribution" Is this the output to TV2?? I disconnected it and whne I did TV1 worked (as it is direct connected with an HDMI cable to the receiver) but TV2 lost all signal. This line goes into a splitter or diplexer that has the dish feed coming in?? I don't understand this one but I thougth as long as I hooked it up as you guys said, then I would be OK.

I am thinking the guy who installed it did a goofy job and this is preventing me from accomplishing this.

Any other thoughts?

If I understand correctly you are trying to get OTA channels through the sat on tv2. Not sure if it works that way. You have to scan for ota channels on your TV and change ota channels on your tv.

Someone else will have to verify this though. I don't have a tv 2 hooked up to a 622 or 722.

The OTA channels will be picked up by your TV (provided it has a digital tuner), not the TV2 channel from the Dish box. Go to the TV's menu and do a channel scan to add the OTA channels.

Since you quoted Old Corps, thought you understood that sending OTA to the second tv required that tv to have a digital tuner. The 722 only supplies OTA channels to tv1 when in dual user mode.

I know I sound like an idiot here, but how do I know if the TV has a digital tuner? I never even thought this was an issue because the TV is a Sony purchased in 2002. How can I tell?

Thanks for the info everyone.....I dont want to sound like a dolt here but I don't kno how to verify if my TV has a digital tuner. It is a Sony regular tube from 2002. I thought it was digital. I did do a channel scan and the only thing I came up with was the dish tuners form the modulator. ch 60 for TV2 tuner and ch. 62 from TV1 modulator.

he rest of the channels on the scan did not pick up anything. I am guessing the signal is not strong enough? Any ways to check and or troubleshoot??
