Hello, I'm a newbie here. Please forgive me if this isn't posted in correct area (or has been answered a zillion times).

We've been DishNetwork customers since June 2000.

Dish 500
Receiver Model 4700
Slave model (purchased from Sam's)... not sure what model but I can provide if needed.

We have 180 pack.

Paying Once yearly. 4.99 month extra for the slave receiver.

We want DVR so we can record on both tv's. Not interested in HD.

When I call Dish I get people I can't understand or I'm given conflicting information. They say they will give me $25.00 for each receiver returned (one told me this wasn't mandatory as we OWN our recievers --- not leased). I see no reason/use for keeping them as they are pre-historic models...but perhaps one might be nice as a backup if the new one ever fails. I'm not interested with selling either.

I'm told the fee to upgrade is 49.00.

Is the 49.00 deal best for us to get the dual DVR? Does it include a new dish antenna? We want to have them add local channels...they said in April we won't need an extra dish (will our current dish pick up those channels?).

Sorry for my silly questions... I hate talking to their people in customer service. Online at their website it gives me conflicting models provided in the upgrade. Confused on what equipment we will get and also their monthly fees (dual dvr hooked to phone line with 180 pack).

We've considered leaving DishNetwork for 6 months (suffer with cable) and come back to get the newest equipment (free). We like DishNetwork so we don't want to go to long contract with Direct TV.

Thanks for any replies...I hope I haven't irritated any of you with my "dumb" questions.

First off; Don't quote me but I do believe that if you leave for six months you CAN NOT come back as a new customer and get all the good deals. Once a Dish Customer, always a Dish customer. Nobody walks out of here alive. :)

If you don't care about HD go for a DVR625( insist on it NOT the 522). With a phone line you(I currently) only pay the DRV Service fee $5.98

Dish should provide any required equipment for your hook-up for the $49.00.

Next time you call, try the option to speak to a Tech Service person. They seem to know more and speak better English.

Yes, go through tech support to order, not customer support. That way you'll get someone in the USA.

Also, if you are replacing both recievers with one 625, and you have a phone line plugged in, your bill should be the same, or $1 more a month, then it currently is.

Your only extra cost should be the $49 upgrade/installation fee, and they should provide any needed equipment for free.

Are you sure?

RobertsD and fchall;

Are you guys sure you're right about that? Won't he also have to pay the lease fee of $6/month too, in addition to the DVR fee, with the $49 deal. Not challenging you guys, just questioning, b/c I was thinking about doing a similar upgrade.

I don't think so. I think the "lease" fee is only for the new MPEG4 recievers. I was leasing a 625 and a 811, and I wasn't paying lease fees for either of them, just one additional reciever fee.

Lease fees and additional outlet fees are the same thing ($5 per month per tuner) Dish just calls them by different names, you wont be charge both.

The lease fee on your first box is included in your monthly programing fee. The second tuner is $5 per month.

There is a $6 per month DVR fee on the 625/522 However Dish will give you a $5 per month discount if the box remains plugged into an active phone line.

Right now you have:

(programing fee) $50 for 180 w/o locals
+ $5 per month for the additional rec.
= $55 per month

with a 522/625 you would have:
(programing fee) $50 for 180 w/o locals
+ $5 per month for second tuner
+ $6 per month for DVR fee
- $5 per month credit if you keep the phone line hooked up
= $56 per month / $61 if the phone line isn't hooked up continuously

I rounded all the numbers and your monthly service fee may be different if you pay by the year.

You will not own the upgraded receiver you will be leasing it and you should have an 18 month contract. DISH will upgrade necessary equipment because under the lease they will own it. Under the Dishing it up promotion your upgrade could be either $49 or $99 at DISH's discretion with your length of service and annual payment I would expect the $49.00 payment. There is a sticky "Disn Network important threads fees etc." check it out for more discussion of fees.

My aunt sells dish... I think you shouldnt go to cable for 6 months because even if you do you will be a dish costumer and will not be considered a new costumer. What you could do instead is cancel your current dish account and have someone else in your family (E.G/: Husband, wife, mom, dad, over 18 y.o. son/daughter, uncle, ect.- Someone who has never had Dish before) Have them apply and put it at your address and you pay. They will give you brand new equipment and completely free.. If you live around the riverside area in california(even if its an hour and a half around it) you can call (951) 601-2001, they are a dish network certified dealer. They speak both english and spanish.
