Because it doesn't do 4:2:2 HD yet ? And maybe won't ? But probably will ?

Yup joe testing decoding with software and not the GPU hopefully some code can come about to have GPU decode.

Got my fingers crossed. And my toes.

Me too. Would be nice to gain CBS without doing all kinds of steps.

Using MX Player to play from host PC running TSReader .....
My phone does 4:2:2 (mpeg and h264 - even 10 bit) with Adreno GPU, also my Android CS918s TV Box with PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU.
Now, it's not perfect, probably underpowered or bandwidth-limited networking in Android, but shows potential.
On the other hand, I have an Android TV Stick with Mali400 GPU that can not do 4:2:2.

The question that remands for me is will this just be a in between STB? Why not use the nvidia tegra GPU so it will be future proof and do 4K?

My guess is that there is a warehouse full of "Android boards" that someone is trying to make use of vs. developing a board.

I don't think the Tegra GPU can make good use of Hardware decoding.
The Adreno / Snapdragon seems to be the leader in this department.

Anyone who wants to play.......
Use TSReader to Stream to VLC (http://127.0.0.1:1234)
Open MX Player App on phone / android device and enter Network Stream "http://ip-of-pc-with-TSReader:1234" and see what happens.

I have several two year old Android factory samples running 2.3 with ancient processors that do flawless hardware based DVBS and S2 4:2:2.

This platform is capable and I have no doubt that it will soon be implemented. The key is the integration with XBMC, not the capability of the hardware.

Because of the limitations of DVBplayer, we wasted at least 300 man hours on developing that useless app! That is why I am excited to see another direction taken with XBMC. XBMC always had more potential, but was very poorly ported to Android. Target retail on my development was $200+/-, but always wished for $135 - $150. :D

I don't blame any developer to take extreme measures to prevent rooting their Android implementation for DVBS/S2. Once the clones get ahold of it, the investment in the RD is lost and flushed down the toilet!

I think that the first successful DVBS/S2 Android development will have the market for 6-8 months before the cloners steal the market from them! It would be nice if the app were available on Google Play for $25 or $35 to enable legit distribution, but doubt there is any honor among the thieves... :(

Cloners wouldn't be satisfied with only providing the hardware and would steal the app so they could sell more of their hardware. God forbid any user have to pay a license fee to reward the app developer and risk taker!
