VOOM still on 61.5 with MPEG 2?

No such fake MPEG-4 or H.264 headers exists - urban legend.

Filtering done by receiver, each STB software have a filter for service type of each channel. Your receiver will not see those channels what have in SDT wrong value.
Before the ViP game, those service types was consistent and had real meaning, like HiDef chahhels - only HiDef receivers capable to process them; OpenTV - well, those who have interactive support, etc.

But the recent 'ViP only' value is something outrangeous. :( It's cut off legitime HD receiever from compatible type of compession programms. Pure manure.

I've never written anything in this thread about fake headers. I was just stating that some people have reported getting some (the old packs) HD channels on the older receivers when activated on an existing HD account.

I'm not aware of what E*'s official position is on this scenario.

I've opposed E*'s decision to cut off the MPEG2 receivers from first announcement. In fact, I found it to be extremely anti-customer. To this day I can't believe they knifed 942 owners in the back, on a high-end DVR that had only been out one year at the time.
