[VOOM] Success Story.........About Time Too!!!!
Well, About a week ago I ordered Voom after doing much research and
reading a lot of the crap on this forum. I've used DirecTV, DishN,
and Cable. I wanted something better. After doing about a month of
research, I decided on the Voom system for many good reasons.
1. Dish Network had Hidden Charges
2. DirecTV is no more or less expensive for about the same channels
without High Def stations (they only offer discounts to NEW customers
that have never had DirecTV. Same thing with DishN and DishN charges a
reconnect fee to previous customers)
3. Digital cable in my town (Amarillo, TX) costs more than satellite,
and any digital cable has the same difficulties as satellite, since
they all use digital satellites to begin with.
4. Broadband TV via fiber optics isn't available in my area.
5. TV connection options with Receivers is limited on DishN and
DirecTV system, unless you wanna spend some bucks for a third party
receiver.
6. DVR sounds nice, but I don't need it, I can schedule and record
straight to the hard drive in my PC (which happens to be
interconnected with my 5.1 audio and -now- my Voom system)
7. The OTA tuner and antenna built into Voom saved me a bundle on a
HDTV tuner and antenna (which I would have to use for DirecTV, and
DishN only offers 5 of the 13 or more Digital channels in my area.)
I was scheduled to install Monday, the 15, but Tuesday the installer
calls me and tells me he can be there Friday, Yesterday, afternoon. I
told him that sounded like a plan to me.
He and his helper came, and in just about an hour had the system,
satellite and antenna installed and running. That man was a true
professional and very knowledgeable about satellite systems. As he
told me, "(satellite systems) that's all I do". He explained to me
that he had been installing DirecTV, DishN, and other satellites
(Cband etc..) for about ten years. He also told me the lack of
differences between the digital systems. Even got it installed 3 days
sooner than expected, but that's up to the installer, not VOOM.
Satisfied? You bet! Impressed? Definitely! Now it's Saturday
afternoon, there's 3 inches of snow on the ground, and I'm still
Vooming, granted I've had to wipe the snow off the satellite, but I've
been doing that with the other systems all along. My parents, who are
on DirecTV and don't live far from me, have no satellite signal, and
are having to watch analog local stations that are kind of -well-
snowy right now. Interesting HUH? And I'm receiving 5 more digital
stations than antennaweb says are available!
Just for reference sake, I'm only using what Voom supplied me with, no
rotators or bigger dishes or anything like that. I am curious as to
what would happen if I did put a rotator on the OTA antenna. DVI
connection @ 1080i - no problems, component connections - no problems.
Home Theater connections - no problems. Of course, I knew that all
of my hardware was compatible before I jumped in over my head.
Anyway, I'm off to catch a movie! Vooming like I've never Voomed
before.
