>From the tone of this thread, some of you guys need to douse the
torches and loosen the rope from around this salesman's neck until
the facts are in.
There is nothing inherantly negative about a salesman that wishes to
give a free evaluation and estimate based on this customer's
situation.
Most of my installs have something added based on the list of
genuine add ons. Very few of my clients with HD home theater want a
cable that is "visible" let alone a hole drilled through the wall of
their theater like the typical DSS/Dish installer would attempt.
Regarding the provided antenna, his labeling it a "bad antenna" may
be a relative term based on the area that this customer lives in.
Based on this group and my Voom distributor, it is still unclear if,
or how far Voom is willing to provide upgraded antennas, extended
masts, pre amps and labor in tough situations. I have never seen
written policy guideline on this.
Even in a suburban area, the provided antenna may be able to achieve
a reasonable threshold of signal, but it is still just a step or two
above "coat hangar" (which may also be good enough in some areas).
If the customer is behind a hill or buildings it gets a lot tougher
real fast.
I've followed other Voom installers that used a compass to aim the
off air antenna and then quickly told the customer that certain
channels just were not available in his area, because the installer
did not have the proper equipment (spectrum analyzer)to aim the
basic antenna or determine what antenna and pre amp might actually
work. They're too concerned about moving on to the next job.
Now that The locals in HD are appearing on DirecTV and Dish
Nutwerks, off air antenna reception is even more critical to those
considering Voom.
On the other hand, this salesman in question just could be a
scamster.
Please post your findings once the facts are in.
