[VOOM] Info on VOOM/DISH

Hi Everyone:



I talked to a service rep at DISH today to see if there was any information
about them picking up the programming now carried by VOOM. The reply was
that they could not officially say whether that would happen, but that the
network should have additional HD programming available very soon.



Of course, I'm hoping this means that the VOOM programming will be carried
on DISH and that they use the same satellite so that there won't be any
deterioration of the signal. I've been spoiled by VOOM and the thought of
using any of the other services is not exciting.



Has anyone else received any other form of confirmation, or denial, that
VOOM programming will be carried on DISH?



If that doesn't happen, do you guys recommend that I just not subscribe to
any other satellite service at all until the MPEG 4 format is available
later in the year? I understand that the equipment we now have, or would
acquire from a subscription to a satellite service in the near term, will
not be compatible with the MPEG 4 format and we will likely have to buy
additional/new equipment. Waiting for another 4 to 6 months isn't so bad, I
suppose, since the HD programming offered by the other satellite and cable
services is pretty terrible as it now stands anyway. However, I'm
interested in hearing what other VOOMers are planning to do.

I placed my order with Dish last night and will have
it installed on may 12...I ordered it with the dvr-942
expecting that when mp4 arrives dish will upgrade my
equipment....I have heard that they are very fair with
thier custumers...and since i have not contract..I am
willing to gamble the $250 fee for the dvr. Comparted
to direct tv they are a steal!! Wish me Luck!! I
will really miss Voom....and hope they pick it up!

customers first. So if you are with them and already subscribe to
their HD package you'll be first on the list for the new receivers

More then likely the upgrade for their present customers will $0
cost or very low cost. If you are a new subscriber with Dish Net
you'll probably get a free HD receiver but you still going to have
to pay something for an HDDVR. With direct TV if you're not already
on board don't expect anything free and big bucks for the HDDVR. If
you are a directTV customer then again you should get an even swap
or a low cost upgrade.

The other thing to consider you may be talking a year or more before
they make the receivers available to new customers since existing
customers will come first. They have a lot of boxes to exchange and
Direct is looking at 1 to 2 years to complete their program. I'm
sure Dish is looking at the same time frame and that's a while to be
without any HD.

This is my opinion only and no real hard facts from either dish or
direct, yet. FYI I went with the HDDVR 942. Reviews are super on
this receiver and my is scheduled for a May 1 install. I let you
know how the thing works when I get it up and running.

Good luck whatever you decide but I'm going to be watching HDTV
either if they pick up Vooms originals or other HD they want the sat
for HD programming. They will of course have to relocate it to
another position.

As a Voom customer and also Dish customer I am going to wait and see where the Voom 21 programming or parts of it migrate. If Dish picks some of the channels up great, I am all set. If the Voom channels go elsewhere then I will cancel Dish to pursue the Voom channels if they are available to me.

I had Dish for 6 years prior to going with Voom. I found them to be
VERY fair - and the biggie for me is that the CSRs are not
condesending to customers. They take their time and work with you -
they stay on the phone with you until your problem is fixed. If they
have to send someone out, they show up when they say they will.
Customer service means a lot to me - if everything else were equal, I
would have gone back to Dish in a heartbeat. Comcast just beat them
out on HD channels.
