I am not personally aware of any society that is a high brow society. Most (probably all) cultures have some individuals or groups that are more interested in intellectual pursuits than the general populace. Over hundreds of years, these artists and artisans produce bodies of works that are recognized and revered these hundreds of years later.

Most people in any society are concerned with about 3 things: food, shelter, and security; sex; and entertainment.

Voom for most is just a tiny, tiny part of the entertainment package. Artists who are producing aesthetically pleasing works are generally not sitting around watching Voom.:)

...But it was nice when I would appreciated those aesthetically pleasing works while watching Voom...;)

One can't always go to an art museum, it was nice when GalleryHD brought art museums to me.

Please don't confuse artists with patrons of the arts. While you can believe that artists will not sit around watching Voom, thats fine...but why wouldn't patrons of the arts watch it if Voom's programming suited them? I think you might have missed something there...

I cant disagree with any of that.

I was just thinking how nice it would be to have VOOM for the holidays. They always managed to do a "little something" special for the Holidays. I have been supporting operations (365/24/7) the past umpteen years, but this year I am on the Corporate holiday schedule so we're shutdown from the 24th to the 5th. Offhand, I don't ever recall having 12 days off from work.

uh-oh...you said a kind word about Voom...the wrath of the visigoths shall fall upon our HEADS!!!!

lol...

By the way, VOOM has signed another content production deal a few days ago:

NEWS BRIEF: US-based Voom HD Holdings and Infinite Frameworks (IFW) have signed a deal to coproduce up to US$20m worth of high-definition programming over the next five years.

Both companies will invest up to US$10m each on production at IFW's Singapore production facility, under a deal that spans sports, lifestyle and arts programming.

Arts programming....

I would love to see it....

I'm telling you, as a top tier customer I spend a lot of money on Dish...but whomever gets Voom will get that money...

Does WorldSport have an agreement to carry La Liga next season?

My sentiments completely.

I also agree that all the Voom haters\ trolls will surface to rain hate
on all our heads at any time now.

Just maybe, for the holidays, they will find enjoyment antagonizing someone else.

Any new information on Voom signing a national account??
They need more exporure than just cablevision.

As Ilya mentioned...their HD studios are still producing content, but there is no news about programming contracts. It's all up to VOOM since they could certainly license some of their more popular channels (Monsters, WorldSport, etc.). However, they appear to be content waiting for a huge payday against E*. We shall see.

To be honest, if VOOM were to announced 2 or 3 of their channels were being carried on FiOS or Comcast, Dish Network (assuming they illegally terminated the affiliation agreement) would probably rescind terminating the agreement, make licensing payments in arrears, and demand matching terms according to the agreement. E* would get what they wanted and still save hundreds of millions.

As much as I would love to see some of the VOOM channels on FiOS TV, it looks like VOOM strategy is "a half-billion or bust!" Again, we'll have to wait or a year or so to see how this all plays out.

At this point I seriously doubt that VOOM would be receptive to returning to E* under any circumstances. Unfortunate.

The last word I've heard was that they had the contract through the end of this season. I wouldn't be surprised if they renewed it again though. This is the type of content they could easily sell to other countries as they expand worldwide: the best soccer league in the World in HD!

Yep, I am not much of a soccer fan but I enjoyed some of the games on WorldSport.

I just want the case with Voom and Dish to be over because if Dish wins then Voom will either die or I think they will try harder to work deals out with other companies. If Voom wins they will either come back or get the money from Dish to make it better and go somewhere else. Or finally they will take the money and run which would suck. But I honestly would rather Voom die then stay just on cablevision forever.

I am sure under some circumstances that they would be happy to have E* carry them again. Not that I think E* is interested.

By the way, does E* still have a large percentage of Voom stock?

First I want to say I think it was stupid for what Voom did, but I also think Dish is stupid for not wanting something they partially own back. I wish Voom would also try to work out a deal but now I am afraid they dont want to do anything.
