I asked this in another forum but I thought I might get more responses in the tech forum.

If I have one 622 with a broadband connection, will I also have that same broadband connection on my 2nd 622 (for VOD) if I'm using Dishcomm to connect the two receivers? Or will I need a seperate broadband connection to the 2nd receiver as well? Thanks.

The DishComm will connect another receiver to it to enable the phone connection. Not sure for a broadband connection. I would think it would waive the phone fee charge but as far as using it for VOD I would think the other 622 would have to be connected to broadband. Again in not sure on this.

Nope, one unit at the router end of your setup is all you need. It acts as a gateway between the ethernet and your home's wiring. Any HomePlug device will work - including multiple devices. I believe there is an eventual limitation mentioned somewhere in this thread by Cyclone.

To answer your question, yes DishComm works for broadband connection. It is supposed to waive the connection fee, but there is some debate whether or not it works (not for me). I had to have the fee manually removed from my bill and I have seen the 588 error (continuous phone line) a lot. Despite these issues, the broadband connection (whether ethernet or DishComm) is designed to meet the requirements for a continuously connected phone line. See here for more details.

Well if this is the case then I don't need the Homeplug, because I can easily get a broadband connection for my 1st 622. I have been trying to find an easy way to get a connection to my 2nd 622.

So if this is true, then the Dishcomm will solve my problem. Thanks.

Wow, I'm sure glad you answered! I misread your first post (and possibly the PM). Sorry!

I thought you wanted one HomePlug device to feed multiple (two, in your case) receivers. That works.

Your specific question about using the DishComm version of HomePlug to create a broadband link between two receivers over your home's wiring is a different matter. I do not know if this will work. If it does, that would be cool. There are a number of variables, though.

Each receiver needs to be able to acquire a unique IP address from your router for broadband access to work. This will be the main challenge for your situation. Since your scenario is essentially an ad hoc/peer-to-peer connection between the two receivers, I doubt it will work unless the first receiver can act as a gateway between the router and the second receiver... It will really depend on how the DishComm stuff was designed. Also, are the ethernet port and DishComm bridged? Are they able to operate at the same time? Clearly it works for the phone line portion, so who knows?

I recommend trying it and reporting back here. If it doesn't work, you can still pick up a HomePlug adapter pretty cheap and add it into your setup. We know it works that way!

Sorry for my misunderstanding of your original question.

Yeah, the test here would be to see if 622 #2 can lease an IP address from the router via 622 #1. Try it. If 622 #2 gets its IP then I think things are looking possible.

Another question, the 622/722 are the only receivers with homeplug at this time correct?

What E* receivers work with DishComm?

So far, you are correct. According to Tony's EKB page, the 222 also has it and the 211 will with a software update. I know I am looking forward to my ViP211 getting this! :)
