Vizio Launches Revamped P-Series UHD TVs

This is looking really nice. Supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision. While measured at 600 NITS (could probably get more out of it) it is across the entire screen. Full Array with 128 Local Dimming Zones. Pricing will hopefully drive down other manufacturers.

I'm getting tired of my 850A Edge-lit in my bedroom. This might be an inexpensive alternative. HDD was pretty impressed.

Remote, Controlled: How Vizio and Google radically reinvented the TV

McRae is the chief technology officer of Vizio, a company that sells more TVs — and with them, remotes — than any other company in America. And he thinks remote controls are very, very stupid.

"I can’t believe we have rubber buttons and a plastic housing with double-A batteries," he says. "We’re navigating from remotes that were invented in the 1950s. That needs to be dynamited."

And McRae has dynamite in hand. Vizio’s new P-Series TVs are a radical departure from the rest of the industry. Unlike the smart TVs that dominate the market, the P-Series completely lacks an on-screen interface — there are no apps or menus or controls or even picture settings on the TV itself. There’s nothing.

Interesting concept. You can open the TV's menu on the tablet and adjust the controls without disrupting the image on the screen. This is cool when you are calibrating a set.

I want nothing to do with a Chromecast type TV, I love the Roku type system.

My Roku 4 works great with my 4K TV, I hated the Chromecast, used a few times over a week, drawer it went after that, Google must of given Vizio a great licensing deal to use that crappy system.

I think this TV is an awesome game changer! The specs are awesome, the SmartCast implementation is brilliant and you can't beat the price.

I wonder why the huge jump in price from 65" to 75".

Unfortunately always a huge jump. Much more difficult to make a larger screen.

Look at the MSRP difference in the OLED prices between 65" and 77" from $6,999 to $24,999

Most of the time the huge price jump has to do with the factory mother glass size. 65" may be the ideal size to cut the mother glass into lets say 4 TVs.... Where 77 inch is one per mother glass plus some small TV screens. Then the odds of defective pixels jumps up since there is more surface area. A future generation of mother glass size could yield 4 screens per pane, then they yield would be higher and the price lower.

2 years from now then next generation glass should be online and hopefully 77 inch will be less expensive and 92" TVs will be the expensive ones.
