Well, it does come with software, and though a little clunky, I have seen it work.

I really like DVBdream , but the old man of the receiver software is MyTheatre.
DVBdream is free; MT costs something ($40?).
Whatever you choose, will be difficult to set up for the first time, so don't get discouraged.

People seem to gravitate towards two free programs: ProgDVB and DVBDream. Both are good, even if I find DVBDream to be a bit resource-heavy.

I've had the opposite experience to yours. I have found that DVB Dream, (with the proper codec's installed) to be much less resource intensive compared to Progdvb. Both are good programs. But, I find DVB Dream easier to set up and use.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to try and play with some different codecs on DVBDream -- and attempt uninstalling some others.

finding DVBdream

The current version of DVBdream is 1.3c
You should have no trouble finding the latest, if there is an update since my post.
The author has a web site @ DVBdream dot Org , so I wouldn't download it from anywhere else.

Being a common and popular card, most any TwinHan DVB card will be supported by 95% of all receiver software out there.
And I'm sure there are well over a dozen packages, mostly all free.
Probably more - don't make me look.

Those settings depend on the LNB(s) you are or will be using. Viewing FTA with the Twinhan is really easy once you get the drivers installed for the card and then your program of choice.
Post which lnb you are planning to use and it will be easier to help you set it up.

Install card, connect dish to card, install drivers, install viewing software.
Cross your fingers!!
More to it than that actually. But, that is it boiled down. When you get a
DVB-s card or external USB Sat box , it should have installation instructions
along with all the basic software to get it going. Including drivers and even
a basic application to view sat channels.
