ViP722k Dolby Digital audio issue

I've been with Dish Network for about 3 weeks.

I have a ViP722K receiver (sw L652) connected HDMI to an Onkyo PR-SC885 Preamp which is connected via HDMI to a Vizio 37" LCD and an Infocus IN72 projector.

Receiver audio is set up - DD & PCM

Audio issue will occur while switching from channels with PCM audio to channels with DD audio. I get a few seconds of unprocessed digital audio (static noise, loud, sounds like an unprocessed digital signal over analog) before receiver locks to DD audio. Resetting (rebooting) the 722k solves this problem for about 24 -48 hours before it starts to reoccur.

Happens only when switching from PCM to DD, DD to PCM switches quietly at all times. Switching from PCM to PCM channels or DD to DD channels always switch quietly. After receiver reset, switches quietly from PCM to DD for 24 - 48 hours then noise starts again. Also occurs over optical out. Again, receiver reset solves issue.

No other devices (Blu ray, HD DVD, Xbox) have this issue attached to the preamp.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Thanks for your help.

have you tried a direct connection to the TV? or other audio cables? this is a weird problem i haven't read about before so we should start from scratch. do you have a surge protector? if you reset the rcvr and it works fine for a while then maybe you have static buildup? plugging directly into a wall outlet might help. but I'm nowhere near positive.

if it works directly, it might be something with your audio receiver I am guessing, try plugging the HDMI directly to your vizio and the receievr directly to the wall, also reset your receiver by pressing the power button for 10seconds

If it works directly dish can not help you on this one
If it does not work directly call dish so they give you some help, they might send you a new one if the troubleshooting does not work.

Have you tried connecting the optical from the 722 to the Onkyo? I believe the PCM/DD settings in the 622/722's is only for the optical out & not the HDMI??? I may be mistaken, but definately worth a shot...

Update...

After I posted this thread, I also emailed dish tech support. I've received a response from dish tech stating that this is a software issue that they are aware of and working on.

And yes, I had tried the optical digital output in place of the HDMI and the issue was the same.
I even tried converting the optical digital out to coax digital out to the preamp with the same results.

I was quite impressed with the quick followup from dish - hopefully it will be resolved soon. I will just continue to reset the 722k when the issue appears.

Thank you all for your responses.
