I tried to resurrect an old thread about ViP 612, but it wouldn't let me as the thread was too old.

I have a ViP 612, and it has worked fine with my Sharp LCD HD tv for 2 months through my HDMI input. My setup is as follows for context...

HD Component input is my Xbox 360 connected. Standard component input is my regular old DVD player. HDMI input is my dish satellite receiver.

So today, when watching television, I switched channels to an HD channel and I got this message on my tv, "An incompatible video signal has been received. Check the output device settings" as the screen went black. But I still had audio, and if you channeled up or down you could tell the channels were switching because the audio changed. The aforementioned error message originated from my tv and not the receiver.

So after doing the usual troubleshooting (resetting the receiver - quite used to this because of other issues) no solution. I called dish and they were useless, blaming it on my tv. So I switched the 612 to component, unplugging my xbox 360 cables since there is only one component input on my HDTV. I get a picture with the satellite, but ONLY if the HD component plugs are not put in (the red, blue, and the green.) If I plug the red, blue, and green plugs in, the same error message as before with the HDMI comes up and I have a black screen with audio only. The picture if I don't plug the red, blue, and green ones in does not look to me like HD.

I plug my Xbox 360 components back in and turn on my 360 and all is well, no problem at all. This has to be something with the receiver as far as I can tell. Otherwise there would be an issue with the 360. I don't have any other HDMI device to 'prove' it's not the cables, other than the odds of component cables and HDMI cables failing in the same hour are quite dubious. My standard DVD works fine, too. I also switched to my 2nd HDMI input and got the same message for the receiver.

Any help or guidance? Thank you for your time. I have a technician coming out on Saturday morning, but I want to avoid getting charged or having to fight not to get charged by the dish network goofs who make some shoddy receivers.

On a side note, what does customer service even mean today? Big business knows they have us all bent over and there's not a fluffing thing we can do about it.

Yeah I tried that. I shut off the power strip it was plugged into and waited. Same thing on restart.

Thanks for the quick response btw.

It kind of is a TV problem ,and a Dish problem. I had the same issue with my D* equipment and HDMI on my Philips Amilight. I had to update the Firmware on my TV,And once it was running on the new version of the update it was fine.
My guess thats what your problem is. Sometimes it would work ,Sometimes it wouldn't.
I would see if a firmware update may be needed on your Sharp tv, first.

So I shut off the power strip for the night and retried everything this morning, and magically everything works again and I'm getting HD picture through HDMI and component with the receiver.

I'll be cancelling the technician appointment, but I'm sure I'm just postponing the inevitable when this happens permanently.

I'll look into a firmware update, Hemi. Thanks for the suggestion.
