Hi,

What is the difference between a receiver VIP 211 HD and Receiver VIP 211k HD ?

Correct. No difference in functions.

My only comment would be that the 211K has had two external HD fail while the HD on 211 is fine. Was this bad luck or something different about USB port? All drives externally powered.

The 211K has a slightly smaller footprint as well....

211 was first in production, when contracted amount was reached production ceased. When DISH needed more basic receivers a new contract was issued functionality stayed the same but circuitry was updated to newer production and the 211K came into existence. Functionally interchangeable but not exactly the same internally.

ONE big difference I believe, is that according to this DISH receiver feature guide from Oct 2011 - the 211 will NOT work on a Tailgater - isn't this still true???
