I have a Viewsat Extream now and MIGHT be able to get a Ultra on Monday for $10.
Would it be worth the upgrade?
How is the blind scan on the Ultra compaired to Extrame?
The Ultra does not have a remote. Would Extream one work with it?

Thanks

Personally, although I'm no fan of Viewsats, I'd do it just to have a new cheap toy. I've heard the Ultra is better than the Xtreme. They offer no advantage over the CS5000 or Pansat 2700, in my mind, so I wouldn't spend much money on the project.
:)

I bought the Ultra this morning.
It was on sale for 1/2 off at the Salvation Army.
Which SW version is the best?

Thanks

The last 4-5 versions of Ultra software all seemed to work about the same for me, that was awhile ago though, before Viewsat got sued out of business. I bought one when they first came out, and used it about 2yrs....until I found out there were other receivers with much better sensitivity. It was a pretty good all-around receiver, but simpler boxes like the Traxis 3500 , and Fortec Mercury 2 would find channels the Viewsat wouldn't ever pick up on a blind scan.

I agree, Viewsat isn't the best for blind-scanning and the motor setup isn't the best either, but I have the Ultra and it has worked good for me. I wouldn't mind upgrading to an HD receiver. I think the remote should work on both.

Yep you are right ftamart viewsat ultra is really good i got many such information about it on this blog - Viewsat - FTA Receivers

This is obviously a hacker website, here's an interesting quote: One of the most common formats is to transmit programming as Viewsat files. With a Viewsat FTA receiver, you will be able to receive and watch all programming that is transmitted as Viewsat files. Playing Viewsat files through a Viewsat receiver has several advantages. This type of receiver will give you access to a wide range of channels. In fact, you will have so many channels to pick from... What a load of crap.
