I would like to use my old Viewsat Ultra for FTA. This receiver doe not have the capabilities that my Fortec Lifetime Ultra has, whe it comes to scanning for the C bands and Ku bands by themself.

When editing Tps, can the C band Tps and the Ku band Tps be added together at the same time for scanning purpose.

What I just did is to scan only the C band Tps, then came back and added the Ku band tps, using the different designated values but somehow it does not seem to be working right. If this question sound confusing, that is because I am really confused on this matter. Any insight on my question and problem is greatly appreciated.

Thanking You in advance

I don't know how the Viewsat works since I don't have one and have never used one, but all receivers I've used (Pansats, Fortecs, Buzz, Visionsats, and the Openbox S9) require that you treat C-Band and Ku-Band as separate satellites. For example, for 87W C-Band, there will be an entry as one satellite. For 87W Ku-Band, there will be another entry as another satellite. That way, you can set the L.O. for each and keep the transponders separate.

Yes Tron, that's all there is to it. You just have to add a few satellite positions to the Ultra's list. The menu entry to do that is sort of hidden, if I remember correctly it was under the TP scan , or Manual Scan heading. But it is there, and once you find it-easy to add new satellites.

If you're using a DMX741 (c and Ku together) then a 22khz On or Off configuration will separate them within the same port.

if im understanding your question correctly you want to seperate the c-band from the ku-band?....so basically you want two seperate satellites in your list for every one orbital location?....go into your menu under "channel scan" at the bottom you will see 4 or 5 different icons to add satellites and TPs....in this same menu you can delete TPs....so lets say for example you select 91w....delete all of the ku transponders and use this for c-band....then select "add satellite" and add a satellite at 91w to use for ku....and name it something like 91w ku....then add a ku TP and blind scan....

Thanks Mikey11, it has been a long time since I had used the Viewsat that I had forgotten how to used some of it's functions. After working with it for about an hour, and not being able to do what I wanted, it went back in it's box. Now that I know how to do the two satellites conversion, I will try again.

Thank You

Don't give up on it, the Ultra had one of the best menu-structures of any receiver I've owned. Everything seemed to be thought out well, though some of the features aren't as easy to find as they might have been.

i agree....the ultra is a very sweet receiver....it is one of the very few "hacker" receivers that i would consider still very good for FTA use....like you said....very user friendly....
