I know myself and a few others have been looking for the updated viewsat factory file 122 that is coming on new shipments, but is not on the viewsat website.

If it's ok (I'm not sure it is as I don't normally see these files posted), I'll upload the file.

I only tried it so far to make sure it was really a factory file and not modified and from what I can tell, it's the legit factory file.

I loaded it on mine and didn't get anything other than dish101, nasa and some ppv order confirmation screen.

I didn't point to AMC3 though to check AC-3 status. But another user reported that this version corrected that problem.

My new Viewsat Ultra will not pass AC3 audio. It has version 1.22 on the software file. I have a optical decoder now and it passes the normal audio just fine over the optical cable into the decoder. Could my signal quality be a part of this? The PBS stations are running 35 to 45 on the quality. I called Viewsat and all the tech told me is that it will pass dolby digital audio and I should have that option in the audio settings along with the icon on the far right should be lit up showing dolby audio. I seen nothing like that and the tech was at a loss when I asked about AC3 audio on the PBS stations (just got dead airtime over the phone from him). Has anyone had luck getting the Viewsat Ultra to to pass AC3 Audio?

AC3 audio, I never checked with my setup and my ultra is not currently hooked up, but I saw others reporting that 1.22 did pass it.

I know there is a another new factory version (1.24 I believe) out that is not on the viewsat website, I'll see if I can did it up and see what it does. It won't be until tonight sometime though since I will want to try it to make sure it is not a modified file before I post it.

I happened to try that 1.22 file last night on my Ultra, it doesn't fix the sound problem on mine. I got sound on two PBS channels on AMC3 but one of those was Montana, they're not using AC-3 that I know of. Tried the pentagon dolby channel, nothing there either. I went back to the 1.19 firmware (couldnt find any diff between the 2) . Can sympathize with the other poster, all I got from calling Viewsat was the same dumb
response of "it should work" or 'they're supposed to have that out next week'

Hey, let me ask this, can you guys actually control the volume with the VS remote if you use the optical out? I could not with version 1.19 or 1.22

Edit:

Hey guys, I saw a post where someone who says with 1.22 that AC-3 is passed over optical is that you have to press the audio button on the remote and if the channels has AC-3 or 5.1, then there should be an option that says DOLBY, choose that and they claim is passes the audio then. however, it disables the RCA audio until you switch back.

I can't verify it right now, but figured one of you might be able to try it before tonight.

I can control the volume with my Ultra and v 1.22. As for the audio options that is what the Viewsat tech told me, but I do not have any option other than left right stereo or mono when I am on PBS or Pentagon Dolby.

Will be great if a new software version will fix this....
Thanks all for the help.

volume

Mine wont work the audio up/down with the 1.19 file, if the optical cable is hooked up I can only change audio volume with the stereo remote. I forgot to try that while I had the 1.22 file in though. As far as the "Dolby" option showing up in the audio tab, with 1.19 firmware, or 1.22 neither one shows anything on the PBS channels on amc3. Its just blank (like those clueless viewsat tech people) when you push Audio button. The channels were stored already, as I didnt do a factory default when I loaded the 1.22-just let it use the channels/pids already in there. I had entered them manually with the info from lyngsat.

I have that Option on my Ultra with the v1.22 version that it came with.

Works fine !!

I found the 1.24 factory file and am playing with it now. If it is a good file and clean, I'll upload it

btw, my viewsat with 1.22 does have the dolby option in audio.

Thanks that is odd as my viewsat Ultra is only a few weeks old for me. Have tried all I could come up with here but nothing yet. Look forward to what you find with 1.24

I'll have to try that again, then, and totally delete everything out, scan amc3 in again, see if it works. I usually delete most of the stuff out about once a month anyway but don't do factory default because I have to go set up all the sats parameters again. Maybe that makes the difference with 1.22

well, I really don't know what 1.24 fixes or addresses since there are no release notes anywhere that I can find. I see nothing special going on. Maybe jpeg or mp3 stuff or something, but I don't use this receiver for that so I would not know.

I didn't do anything other than press the AUDIO button while on one of the PBS's on AMC3 and was able to get the audio. Oddly still no volume control for me though with the viewsat remote, I have to use my AVR receiver for volume control still.

Anyways, the file looks to be clean in my quick testing. So I attached it.

volume control of AC3 content

I thought we'd discussed this recently in another thread.

I don't believe it's possible to change volume of the AC3 content, if you are not decoding it.
If you are decoding it, that's another matter,
And it would be great if the AC3 were decoded to at least stereo and presented on the red/white RCA jacks -
But only a few of the most recent and high-end boxes do that.

To simply pass out the optical/coaxial connector the unprocessed AC3, I think it's expected that the hi-fi system with decoder will deal with the volume.

Or to be concise (too late) - no volume control is normal.

no, what I meant was that I get no volume control on any channel if I use the optical output.

However, IIRC (and I may be wrong) my merc II allowed me to control the volume directly when on AC-3 channels. I know one of my receivers I have played with have. So either my merc II or CS5K. I know my pansat 3500 is just a line out when on an AC-3 channel
