Hello all,
I've recently talked to a friend of mine and he recommended me getting a ViewSat Ultra, I never used one of these before and wanted to get some input or recommendations on what I need. Is there something better then a ViewSat Ultra. I currently use the Dish service (I think) and wanted to know what info I need to get a ViewSat of some kind. Do I need to get the type of satellite dish I'm using please walk me through this. Don't want to get something I don't need or pay lots of $ for something I don't need. I'd like to get something nice though. Recommendations, thoughts, advise.........Thanks in advance.

Check out the website, Viewsatusa.com - Introducing the VS2000 , you can find all the info on their different models. The Ultra is a very nice rec, for what it is intended for=free-to-air
tv channels. Lots of memory, fancy graphics and some excellent features for blind-scanning, making channel lists etc. It is around two hundred bucks avg. It will not
do HD tv signals though, and is not a legal alternative to subscribing to pay television.

Iceberg, I'd prefer to have hbo, showtime and channels like that. Not into the sports thing except pro football. turbosat, Wouldn't mind HD channels either...wondering if an HD rec is really expensive? Maybe something in the middle of the road compared to those two options? Thanks again for all the help.

Su_jumpd, you do realize that the channels you listed are encrypted and usually part of subscription services. A viewsat or any other FTA receiver cannot legally be used to decrypt them.

Nothing like HBO, Showtime, or any other premium channels up there unencrypted. You'll get lots of educational programming, news, feeds, and most broadcast networks... but nothing like movie channels.

Please note that this forum condones the discussion of UNENCRYPTED satellite signals only, no hack talk is allowed.

yep. We only talk about LEGAL free to air here. (and do not take kindly to people who want to steal encrypted services)
