Six months after launching PacketCable-based VoIP service in Quebec, Canadian MSO
Videotron counted 62,500 customers as of August 12. That’s an increase of 20,700
subscribers since June 30, equal to a 3,450 customer per week run rate for the first six
weeks of the third quarter. That’s a 67% improvement over the 2,069 VoIP subscriber
additions per week Videotron averaged in the second quarter. With a head start over
Rogers and Shaw, Videotron is now Canada’s top cable VoIP provider.
Look for Videotron’s pace to continue to accelerate. On August 17 the MSO expanded
availability for its VoIP service to include the Island of Montréal, building on its
initial footprint in the Québec City area. Videtron is now marketing VoIP service to 1.5
million homes in Quebec.
