Simple question...can you slave a 4DTV (or sidecar) to a KU setup?

I might be getting a 905 sidecar and would like to at least hook it up to the 2nd feed from my KU setup. The Coolsat would run the motorized setup but the sidecar could follow along. I know an analog you can but didnt know if the 4DTV could do that.

It should work. If it's been hooked up to a working c band system as of late it should have the latest satellite's programmed in and channel maps.

Thanks guys...Its a 905

tvro...I cant confirm how long its been in terms of maps. But if I remember, if I go to G1 TP3 doesnt it download the newest maps? It may be a pain to move the C-band dish but possible :)

You can get the maps on any main distribution feed of the premium movie channels, well I'm pretty sure they all have the mapping data, I have downloaded maps on G-14 (G5) G-10 (G0) and before the trees blocked me G-15 (G1) unless you want the guide you do not really need to go to G-15 transponder-3.

The only problem is the new maps will not come from ku band feeds (correct me if i am wrong).

Hey Ice, you have any buddies with c-band? You can take your receiver to their house and download the maps from G-15, or better yet your 6 footer may lock transponder 3 on G15 enough to get the maps.

There are some free stuff on x-4 (g16 ku band) dc-2 sometimes.

It would be best IMO to go to G1-3 if possible, then do a master reset and let it reload all the latest maps and guide info. At this point my channel numbers have increased quite a bit lately so you would want to get the latest data in there if you can. Otherwise you may have to use a generic to view something, also the generics don't always cover every mapped in channel.

:eureka:One last thing when you get it hooked up. You may want to call NPS or SRL and ask them to test it. They can send you out a hit and see if all is well. Good luck with the sidecar and Welcome to the world of DC II :up

You can take hits from the X4 feeds. SRL has done that with me, not sure if it updates the maps though. When I do a rehit for map updates, I always point on G1-3.

If Ice could add a polar mount to his C band dish with an actuator he would be good to go. May be something to look into to do this summer, a movable dish on C band is a must IMO.

Yes every once in a while HITS opens up for a short bit but not too often. X4 603 ALTV, 644 Blackbelt and the DMX music channels are ITC with a subscription to any DC II service. The really cool stuff is on C band though ITC if you catch my drift:D

thats some good info to know. So as long as the satellite has a movie feed it should be fine? I just go to that satellite and let it download?

OK. I know the 6 footer can get G1 fine because last winter when I had the dish in front of the garage I got the analog channels clear. Might have to lug it out front (where the dish is now the roof blocks the view from AnikF2 west)

will they do that even if I don't subscribe? I might sub to some of the X4 stuff.

I wish. Problem is where I am located. I can't bury a dish in the yard (HOA) and my LOS is pretty bleak where the dish is now. AMC3 over to AnikF1 is about it...AMC3 is iffy. With only a 38 elevation for true south its tough.

I have had NPS test decoders before so I would ask them first. If you want to sub to only X4 services call SRL they have more access to X4 channels. You can split your subscriptions between SRL and Skyvision with SRL and get the best deal that way. SRL is pretty flexible with digitals where NPS isn't . Except for a few alacarts on X4 NPS want's you to get there Absolute digital pkg which would be a waste if your not using a full blown C band system too.

thanks for the info :)

Could you elevate it or put it on a garage roof or something? My 12 foot is on a 18 foot pole along my garage. I can see from about 38 deg west to 155 deg with no obstructions. I think you run a solid dish? Sometimes mesh dishes are a bit more pleasing with restrictive covenants inforce. Maybe a 6 to 7.5 foot mesh on some kind of roof mount?

I get my maps on G0-5, they should also be on G5-12 and C3-19.

Your 905 should be ok if the battery is stil good, you can download the maps then go over to X4, SRL can activate programming on X4-430 so you will not need to move the dish for that, the only time you will need c-band is if there are new channels added to X4, Sleuth was just added so getting the new maps would be a good idea.

Yep its a 6 foot dish.

I have a unique situation as I am in a townhouse. The HOA (which I am a member of) allows me to have the 6 footer (being the VP helps) :)

I cant put it on the roof as the bedrooms sit on top of it. I can't do a roof job because the HOA says only the edge fo the roof (and I already have 3 dishes on there) :D. And a pole is out.

Right now its on top of a 30" high table to clear the roof on the north side of my house (its on the deck). Being in MN a 38 elevation sucks. Its fixed on G4 right now but I have moved it to G11 over to AnikF1 with no issues (they're all within a degree or two of each other)

Last winter I moved the dish in front of the garage to get the stuff from G0 west and to see what was over there :)
But right now its fixed on G4 with a 2nd LNB on AMC1

Well do what you can. I only have 3 dishes right now my 12 foot and a 90cm Prime* on X4. There both on pipes planted in concrete in the ground. I also have an old direct tv 18" dish pointed at Echo 7 to get the free :music:music there. I may put up another dish before this summer is over for ku, like another Primestar if I can find one, to lock on G-10. Im not in too much of a hurry since Equity is making alot of changes and who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Try to at least get the sidecar updated on G1-3 one way or another. I just had 3 more channels added to my 4DTV (DSR 922) today. Im up to a channel count of 4710 now.

Good luck with your project.:)

is SRL www.programming-center.net or is it a different site??

SRL stands for Satellite Receivers Limited, but is Programming Center. It get's confusing but here are the links:

That's for SRL's side:

http://programming-center.net/services.htm

This is for Skyvision's side:

http://skyvision.com/programming/index.html

When you speak with them you can set up accounts on both sides and mix and match services to more or less what your looking for with the best price.

I have programming with both sides and NPS.
