Van Halen reuniting with Roth

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Billboard) -- A deal is almost set for David Lee Roth to return to the Van Halen fold for a summer tour of amphitheaters, sources told Billboard.com
They said a contract could be signed as early as Wednesday for tour promoter Live Nation to produce a 40-date trek, which would mark Roth's first outing with the rock band in more than 20 years.
Spokeswomen for Roth and the band said they were unable to provide any confirmation.
Guitarist Eddie Van Halen's 15-year-old son Wolfgang has stepped in for original bassist Michael Anthony in the new incarnation of the group, which also features Eddie's brother Alex Van Halen on drums.
Van Halen last toured in 2004 with vocalist Sammy Hagar, Roth's replacement, grossing nearly $40 million, according to Billboard Boxscore. Hagar refused to collaborate further with the Van Halen brothers after the tour's completion, although he has consistently played live with Anthony in recent years. The warring factions may wind up meeting in public in March when Van Halen is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I have to say that I liked Sammy better as lead singer.

Don't get me wrong, I still like some of the old school with David Lee Roth but I feel that Sammy was a better fit for them. Oh well, great bands don't last forever with the exception of course of the Stones.

And Aerosmith.

I've seen Van Halen with Sammy. Never saw them with Roth. Looks like I'll get my chance :)

Hagar never clicked with me. But then again, when he came on the scene I had discovered groups like the Pixies, and the Replacements, and that was it for me for regular hard rock.

I went to see Van Halen with Sammy and it was pretty awesome. Never saw them with Dave so I may get my second chance.

Dfergie, we need a poll now. :) Who do you prefer for Van Halen's lead singer Roth or Haggar?

Sammy!
Sammy!
Sammy!
Sammy!
Sammy!
Sammy!

Yep, I saw them yet again with Ozzy. They do they same thing the Who and the Stones do; once every 3 - 5 years they do something. To the topic I saw VH with both Sam & Dave multiple times and although I know Sammy was the latest and very good; Dave was the best when it came to pure VH rock. Now lately the times I have heard Dave I was shocked at how bad it sounded, but it was not rock; it was some country & pop crap. I hope I am wrong, but this could shape up badly. I am a VH fan and was sorely disappointed to see the way Eddie's life seems to have turned, but I still am looking forward to this. I am dumbfounded about the Anthony absence; seeing how they can patch it up with Dave they SHOULD for him. Especially before the HOF.

Didn't Van Halen and Roth attempt a reunion several years ago? It seems like I remember this and it did not go well, not to mention Roth had completely lost his voice.

They did a TV appearance in 2001 for an upcoming anniversary/compilation that I think turned out later to be "The Best of Both Worlds"; but at the time he thought it was more than that and was snubbed yet again. I remember Eddie & Alex saying Dave trying to take command spooked them at the time.
