Uverse/Directv channel integration

This may have been asked before and may very well be a dumb question, but I was wondering what everyone thought.

Supposedly AT&T is making somewhat of a push for Uverse subscribers to switch to directv (assuming they eventually want to shut Uverse down). Do we think that with this move, it will bring the channels that Uverse has over to directv?

Channels like OANN, CMT Music, MTV Hits, TV One HD and many many others are available on Uverse so one would assume that it would be quite simple to carry that over to AT&T's satellite platform, Directv. Maybe it's not so simple?

Not simple. There are contracts in place between ATT and these channels that do not cover DirecTV. Each contract would need to be renegotiated; ATT might just wait until the contracts expire and then renegotiate.

While AT&T May eventually integrate Uverse TV & Directv with one common channel line-up, they probably won't completely eliminate Uverse TV because they may still have Uverse customers who'd have no LOS for a satellite dish, or customers who live in a HOA that it would be much easier to hook up to Uverse TV than to fight over putting up a satellite dish.

That could be why they can't shut down UVerseTV right now because of the current UVerseTV channel contracts? Maybe they figured it would be easier instead of merging the platforms together to just let the contracts expire on UVerseTV and then renegotiate the UVerseTV channel contracts for DTV?

And what about all the U Verse subs that like thier U Verse TV?
I have a friend of mine that loves the U VERSE TV and doesn't like D* at all.

DTV is cheaper to operate than UVerseTV. Maybe they will tell people to use their OTT to replace UVerseTV? Also analysts say they will shut it down.

Eventually they will shut it down, but no time soon ...

You can't just say to the Million ? people that have U Verse that we are now shutting off service to you all (unless att goes out of business .. don't see that happening.)

Those people will eventually will get swapped to DirecTV Now, the new OTT platform launching in Q4. Uverse as we know it today, is going away, just not right now. Give it a year.

You can't just say to the Million ? people that have U Verse that we are now shutting off service to you all (unless att goes out of business .. don't see that happening.)

You absolutely can when you have the capital that ATT has, and are launching an OTT platform to migrate them to. You also have to remember that most will get discounts bundled for switching, so they can have their Internet and TV.
