Using BEV 18" dish and LNB for Dish Network

I need to get the Packer Bears game tomorrow evening and I won't have my StarChoice System up by then.

So a friend had a Dish Network reciever, that I proposed that we hook up to the existin BEV dish and LNB. My understanding is that the systems are compatible.

Unfortunately after an afternoon of frustration we ere nevre able to get a signal. We tried several satellites and the signal meter indicated that we had a signal but the reciever indicating nothing.

The Dish Network reciever has setting for SuperDish, Dish 300 and Dish 500. We tried all with no luck. We weren't using a swithc as we only had one reciever. Maybe that was our mistake.

What am I doing wrong?

Are you pointing at the BEV sats or Dish Sats?

If its a single lNB ExpressVu dish, just aim it at 110. IN the receiver menu, select Dish 300 and that shows the elevation/azimuth for 110

make sure to do a check switch before aiming the dish to clear out all the existing check switch stuff

Thanks for the confirmation. I Hooked everything up again and Low and behold it worked like a champ. WHen I turned the reciever on, it when through a switch diagnostic and it was there, I am sure we tried redetecting the seitch this afternoon so I am not sure why it didn't work.

Is it possible to tune in Satellite 121 which has the local network feeds?

Maybe I'm missing something here, but are you saying the Dish Network receiver has re-mapped to Bell Express with everything authorized or it is mapped to Dish Network and pointing at a Dish Network satellite?

You have the wrong size dish & the wrong lnb to receive 121.

You need a larger dish, a super dish & a different lnb to get 121

Well I guess I am going to be out of luck. The Bears Packers game is on NBC.

I can't get my StarChoice system up for atleast several more days and I can't get the local channels on Dish Network that are on Satellite 121.

NBC using an amplified antenna only gets a very fuzzy picture.

(I am using an authorized Dish Network reciever and a Bell ExpressVu dish and LNB aimed at a Dish Network Satellite).

Do I have any another options?

Before you start using a receiver to try to get a signal lock, run the check switch routine without any satellite cable connected. This will clear the switch matrix settings.

Secondly are you using a Dish Pro LNBF? If you are, it's possible your receiver will NOT function with PRO LNBF's. Only Dish Pro receivers will work with Pro LNBF's without a Dish Pro Adaptor. Legacy LNBF's and switches will work with ANY Dish Network receivers, no adaptors needed. ALL Four digit Model Numbered receivers are legacy receivers, ALL Three Digit Model Numbered receivers are Dish Pro receivers.

Some LNBF's are LNBF's with integrated switches, namely TWIN and QUAD LNBF's. Some integrated LNBF's are Legacy and some are Dish Pro.

If your LNBF doesn't have a "DP" logo on them it's likely a Legacy LNBF.

Lastly Dish Network has an agreement with BEV so BEV can use Dish Network receivers and hardware for their Expressvu service. Now with that said the Serial #'s in each and every receiver manufactured by Dish Network are only capable of receiving either ExpressVu OR Dish Network. Receivers designated for ExpressVu can never EVER be used to receive Dish Network service, and Receivers designated for Dish Network can never EVER be used to receive ExpressVu service.

from your location in the other post, do you have Wausau locals?

If so, they are the 129 satellite so you could aim the dish at 129 and use the same dish you have right now

Elevation would be 25.6
azimuth is 232 or so

If Wausau is your locals, once you aim the dish and do a check switch, you'll get channel 9901 (Dish 129) and your locals and that's it...but it sounds like that's all you want for now

Failing getting Iceberg's last suggestion to work, why not go to your local bar this fine New Years eve and have a few beers and watch football?

The OP neglected to tell us what locals he had. After his next post that mentioned 121 (and in another thread he mentioned his general location) his locals are also on 129. He had the dish aimed at 110

Oh [insert expletive here]! I just bought a BEV 4100 off ebay which I thought I could use on Dish Network as a 111. Assuming I didn't buy stolen equipment (e.g. a leased receiver), why oh why doesn't Dish and Bell accept either flavor of the same receiver? This is like subsidy-locked cell phones only worse. If I buy a cell phone without contract subsidy (like we can buy satellite receivers), then what's the problem?

I note that Dish and Sky Angel will swap receivers, no problem.
