Used Hughes E1 Help

I have a DirecTV subscription with two receivers I bought new over the last few years and just finished a 1 year commitment for the oval dish upgrade. I just bought a used Hughes E-1 receiver with no card for a couple of bucks and would like to get a new card from D. I plugged the receiver in and connected the cables but it just gives me a searching for signal message with no signal strength and no preview channels.. I used the same cable that I use for my second receiver which is also a Hughes E-1 and works fine with a 95 signal. I have a triple lnb oval dish. Do I have to get a card for it to get the preview channels or is there a setting I overlooked. I tried all the dish type setting including triple but no luck. Anyone have any suggestions or should I trash it. I want a third receiver but NO one year commitment.

Make sure the triple dish is selected in the installation menu of the e1

I tried all of the dish type settings. Single, double and triple, still no signal.
