Use universal remote with PC

ok so i have my twinhan pci card and the twinhan remote, this system is nice and is basically a keyboard.

I have a tv that acts as a universal remote: other modes include AUX, DVD, & CBL.
the remote has code search and a list of codes that you can enter to get it to control most of the brands you have heard of.

I want my TV remote to control my computer through the twinhan usb receiver. Is there a way to do this, maybe there is a certain DVD/AUX code that sends signals that the PC would recognize. Or are there drivers for my USB IR reader?

Maybe someone has some ideas.

Are you asking if your TV remote is usable instead of the Twinhan
(to control your DVB program)?
Probably not (unless your TV remote will "learn" from the Twinhan remote). There may be other drivers for the USB Receiver. but I have not seen any.

Are you asking if you can control your PC via the Twinhan DVB S card? Not sure it is possible; but If I come across and article I will post a link…I know that there is a universal USB IR remote for a PC, but it is not for controlling a PC, it is for controlling DVB S cards or other devises on the PC.

As for a good universal remote here is the one I use…very easy to use…

No, I was responding to i4tas' question.
Anubis1 (author of DiaVloB) has a test program to use the Twinhan
remote/sensor for other purposes (though have not tried it).

I was actually responding to i4tas, and you asked the other good question that would pretty much cover what he, i4tas could have meant, thus my response via your post was really intended for i4tas. From what I understood I think what i4tas was asking is if he could control the PC via some Twinhan program available…sorry for misunderstanding, was just trying to help…

hi

i just realized i got some responses. My twinhan remote talks to the usb receiver and works fine. lets say i press the play button, the play button act as the enter key. I have noticed that sometimes when using the stero, tv, or rotor remotes the pc sometimes reconizes the signals as key strokes. Like for instance VOL+ on my stero remote tells the computer the keystroke "h". So it just so happens that some signals for regular remotes are reconized by the usb reciever and acctuly do commands on the pc. (once i had a problem where pressing a tv remote button also started the pc to recored satellite).


Anyways now that i hope i explained myself. Since i have a remote for my tv that could also control lets say a SONY DVD player, is there a way my tv remote could act as the twinhan remote? I know there is no "twinhan code" for my remote, but maybe there is a certain common satellite reciver or RCA stero that would acctully send some sort of signal that would emulate keystokes on my pc so i can tell my DVB program to work on my tv remote.


It was just an idea, looking to simplify the system, not type an essay. Thanks

Are you wanting to use your remote as a mouse??? If so, go get a ati all-in-wonder or similar type card for the computer. These come with usb based infared remotes that do act as mice... You probably were wanting one remote to do it all... but having more than one won't kill you.

About WinLIRC

WinLIRC allows you to transmit and receive standard infrared remote control signals. This allows you to control your computer using almost any standard infrared remote control. It also allows your computer to control other equipment which uses these signals (stereo equipment).

WinLIRC is the Windows equivalent of LIRC, the Linux Infrared Remote Control program. WinLIRC (through version 0.6) was originally written by Jim Paris. Later releases are written and maintained on sourceforge.
Hardware requirements

WinLIRC requires a very simple IR detector connected to a serial port. Any serial hardware that works with the original LIRC will also work with WinLIRC. Note that the parallel port hardware, IRDA ports, and Irman are not yet supported by WinLIRC. WinLIRC also supports a variation on the serial port receiver, that has it's pins attached to the irDA header pins on the motherboard. The transmitter is simply an infrared LED and a current limiting resistor. You should easily be able to buy all the parts for the transmitter and receiver for less that $15.

A 166 MHz Pentium should work fine (slower Pentiums may work too).
