I got an e-mail this morning stating "Effective August 1, 2008 by 5 pm ET, DISH Network will have launched the following MPEG-4 HD Channels!" It then went on to list out channels and packages for the 17 coming tomorrow...

I live in NJ and can see all of these channels. What's the purpose of them? They have no mapdowns to the regular channel numbers.

Yes they do. Your receiver will just choose the ones it cares to see. If you have 61.5° and 110°/119° and an MPEG4 receiver, the receiver will automatically select whatever channel it wants.

Eventually, all new NYC customers will be looking at 61.5°, 72.7° and 77° with an Eastern Arc Dish.

I've been fighting that battle for years. What's weird is I've only ever seen it on Satellite boards.
