He sums things up better then I ever could so I am going to repost his message here as it says it all.
Maybe they did actually add "a lot" of HD. But when 99% of the people heard that, they assumed, apparently wrongly, that meant a bunch of national HD channels would get lit up. We got 3. Now I am happy for those that got their local HD lit up, and I am grateful for the channels we did get, but for a huge percentage of the country, "a lot" of HD by May 1 amounted to 3 channels, and that's not "a lot" no matter how you spin it.
Dish has been touting since the last Charlie Chat a bunch of channels that "may" be added, and only a few of those have even gotten added so far.
Truth be known, if it weren't for the fact that my wife loves the Voom channels, and that I'm still under contract for one more year, I'd jump to DirecTV. Then, down the road, assuming it comes true and Dish actually adds "a lot" of HD, I have the option to come back.
Now, regarding adding HD channels that have little or no HD. Even though they may not offer much in HD, even the SD shown on the HD channels looks better than the over-compressed stuff we have to see on the current SD-only channels (as long as they don't do the horrible stretching thing).
Dish needs to add some of these other channels, if nothing else, to improve the perception of the market that they're keeping up with Direct. Especially given the recent satellite failures and delays, and the countless court battles that Dish is involved in, I'm surprised that Dish keeps attracting new subscribers. Maybe it's all those HD locals they've been adding...
Just to be clear, I'm not trashing on you Scott, I'm trashing on Dish.
