Uplink Comparison Range: 04/23/2008 06:56P - 04/24/2008 01:32A

Note from Scott, it appears that some spot beam moves have taken place. With that said, it's been a long time since I have posted an uplink report so the data here might not be 100% accurate.

Lots of action in the NE :)

Boston & NYC HD move to spot beams

Providence HD are now available

Providence SD locals move to spot beams

I am pretty sure all the other "available" changes did not happen.

See ya
Tony

Yeah, but it is on the spotbeam. :(

NY and Boston "movers" lost the signal.
Interestingly enough, tp 17, 19, and 21 still show adequate signal strength this far south (northern VA), and my 625 still shows them without "spotbeam" in the Point Dish screen. Satellite designation went away for 19; now it's locked name not available.

My own spotbeam, 13, started acting normal. (61.5 name stays indefinitely, as does spotbeam.)

Hmmm... Dish just freed up two conus TPs on 61.5 that could be used for new National HD or....

I guess time will tell :)

does the 129 have the same amount of free space? dont think they are gonna add HD Nationals just to the 61.5?
Those of us with dish 1000.2s and a wing dish for 61.5 don't really care

Note to Dish: Just load up the new National HD where ever you have space and sort out the details later :D

I'm confused how does switching transponders to spot beams free up space on the satellite overall?
NYC and Boston were on CONUS TP's. Moving these two cities to spotbeams will free up two CONUS TP's for more National HD.

It's a long story, but... The key is that Dish is finally taking full advantage of 61.5's capabilities by loading Locals (HD and SD) onto Spot Beams running MPEG4 to dramatically increase the bandwidth of 61.5. The best explanation I've read of how this works is in this thread which described what Dish did with the Sky Angel TP bandwidth. Begin with post #15.

If I am not mistaken, I thought Digi said one time there is free space right now for some national HD on 129. I cant remember how many channels he thought could be added to 129.

I would think national HD would be put on both 61.5 and 129 not just one or the other but............

Yes, 129 has 3 free TP's currently (1, 3, and I think 13). We don't know if the satellite has enough power to actually use them all, though. But, they could probably light up at least two of them (in fact, TP#1 was added back to the tables yesterday, so it looks like we may see some activity there). ;)

I thought they were turning the existing conus tp's into spot beams. I didn't realize they were moving the channels to existing spot beams.
