Upgrading DVR522 to VIP722 ?

Is there a way to have my recordings on the 522 transfered to the External HD or to the 722.

I see a USB port on the back of the 522 ???

Nope, 522's USB is only 1.0 and cannot be used to transfer to an external hard drive.

I was thinking the 522 USB v1 isn't fast enough to read from an external hard drive but can still write to it. My reason for thinking this is because the 522 can upload to a PocketDish.

USB 1.1 (12 Mb/sec or so) would be like transferring in real time. Dish is not going to write the software, either. You could record to 4GB (2 hours of SD quality) DVD to have a permanent copy, a lot of manual tending. Better to start a new set of recordings, preferably in HD, with the 722 and multiple EHDs, 750GB or more each--think 200 DVDs.
