I have the AT250 HD Gold, DVR Advantage, a 622 (in single mode) in the living room and a 508 in the bedroom.

The 508 was grandfathered out of DVR fees, but at my last service upgrade they started charging me an "additional receiver fee" for the 508.

Anyone know what it would cost to upgrade that 508 to a 612?

I mean if they're going to hit me with a fee, regardless of what they CALL it... I may as well upgrade that receiver to an HD receiver, right?

I'm thinking the 612 because it's dual tuner. I can record one station while watching another (can't do that on a 508).

I'm about to have surgery (Aug 7th) that will have me laid up for several weeks. I'm kinda thinking that HD in the bedroom would be nice and DVR capability while watching something else live would also be nice.

Just wondering what kind of upgrade cost I might expect.

Bah.... called Dish... this is a no brainer. I'm eligible to upgrade one receiver for free. If I upgrade to the 612 they're telling me that that's a solo receiver and the charge on my bill would stay the same. So... free upgrade to HD receiver and no change in the bill? I think I'm gonna schedule this.

You still get the additional receiver fee, you pay the subscription on the first receiver and additional receiver fee on any additional receivers (it is a lot cheaper than subscription fee for each receiver). I am surprised they didn't try to charge for the time you didn't get charged instead of just last month.

I've had the 508 for several years. I never paid any fees of any kind on it until quite recently.
Regardless... if I can do this as a no-cost upgrade, it's kinda silly to NOT do it.

OH... it does start my 24 month commitment over again. That does not upset me. I fully expected it. It has become normal when upgrading and I'm really not going back to cable and with D*'s start up costs I won't be moving to D* ... so.... *shrug*
