Thanks to advice on this forum I just called D* and got an upgrade to the HD DVR for $19.95 S & H plus 6 months of no equipment charge. I suspect I could have gotten additional discounts but this seemed fair.
We are on record as customers since 2001 and get the old Total Choice package, HD, HBO, Encore, SD locals & distant networks We have not received an equipment upgrade for several years and own our old HD box
I found this number which connected directly to a human at D*: 877-575-4332 (no menu!). I told the human I was thinking of canceling and asked for Customer Retention. I told the nice guy at Retention that I wanted an HD DVR and Dish was offering one for free... did D* want to offer me one?
Install is set for this coming Wednesday. Thanks for saving us a couple hundred dollars.
