What DVRs are you guys using?
Dan, Did you have anyone messing with your dish set up or was that just a nice hiding place a cam?
Oh yeah, I am not a fan of wireless
at all for many reasons. When I mentioned IP, I was referring to hardwired IP via Cat 5e/6.
1000TVL sounds legit. That's a great price for audio and that resolution. Like the set up. For most home applications, that would be more than enough. Most home users won't want to mess with terminating coax versus the modular RJ45 directly into NVR/switch combo, but this is a unique group here regarding that
. BNC, coax ends, splitters, and spools of RG6 everywhere
! Analog makes more sense here than for most end users.
I tend to lean towards IP wired because many of the NVRs also include a built in POE switch, then you just uplink to LAN for remote access the same you would a coax system. With analog you have to include some type of additional power box or 110v adapter brick. With any runs over 300 feet, I start looking at hybrid coax/IP solutions which usually comes out cheaper than multiple network switches. Keep in mind, there are Analog HD (AHD) systems out there now that can push a full HD CCTV codec over RG6 at 1080p/2 MP. You cannot mix the different analog HD standards though. Digital Watchdog for example using AHD, Hikvision uses TVI. DVRs are looking for one particular analog HD
flavor. I like that IP is almost always the same ONVIF protocols. I can throw a Pelco IP cam on a Hikvision IP system. Just make sure no license is required.
Raine, That is nice regarding having this on your OTA setup on your main TV setup! Same story here, why run an electrical cable when you could just run a data/power cable. I'm also not climbing up on ladders to pull SD cards or change batteries. Also, adding multiple HD video feeds to your home wifi will bog down most folks wireless router.
