Ok, I thought I had everything setup LOL. I was going through and aligning up arch on cband when I noticed that I was missing a bird. I went to go add the bird in via the remote and the azbox spazed out. Upon rebooting, I was successfully able to readd in the bird i was missing and I noticed that the sats I deleted (asian and european) appeared out of no where in the channel list where they were not before.

Birds that I have deleted in from the channel list keep reapppearing. I have reset the azbox back to factory specs. Gone back and reuploaded the file after clearly deleting all unwanted sats from MAZ and the other channel editor. Upload back to the AZbox, only to see that the sats that I have deleted are back. Even though throuh MAZ and AZboxedit, those sats were not uploaded.

Any of you guys have an idea what may be going on and how to fix this? Thanks.

Hi Bob, Welcome to Azbox ownership ;) Wait until you have sats in your list decide to change their orbital location. On a more serious note, if you follow one of the guides for making a NA satellite list, you shouldn't see the Europeans birds in your list again, although its still possible for the list to become corrupt. FWIW, I've found that adding/deleting satellites on screen generally results in my list becoming corrupt

You know if I would have read stargazes post in the first place instead of skimming over it, I wouldnt have the issues im having :D Ahhh the fun of this hobbie! :) Wouldnt be one if there wasnt some sort of growing pains!

These problems were my main issue until I totally abandoned the use of the remote for these purposes. Once you get comfortable with the support programs and learn their little quirks, life does become much easier. Initially, it is difficult to adhere to using these programs and NOT using the remote, but it is worth it in the long run. I do believe that the OpenSat programmers can correct this, eventually.

I understand what you did, you didn't use the ACC program to send your files back to the AZBox. This step is necessary because the ACC program can access the read-only DVBS backup sat file list stored in the DISK1 folder. The ACC program generates a TelNet command that temporarily allows this file to be written to, then writes your new file to it and then sets it to be read only once again. If you do not use the ACC program, the original factory list is still residing in the DISK1 folder. In certain instances, the system accesses this file and when it does, it pulls some of the old data back out and reinstalls it. That is why you witnessed the old European and Asian sats reappearing.

My belief is that the backup DVBS file in the DISK1 folder was NEVER intended to function in the way that it does. I believe that it is a programming glitch. This backup file should ONLY be accessed and reinstated when you perform a DATA RESET and select to restore to FACTORY SETTINGS. Somehow and for some reason, the data in this file is "bleeding" back into the user list. Using the procedure to North Americanize your list and primarily using the ACC program to upload your lists to the AZBox prevents this as it overwites that backup file with your data.

NOTE: You should always reupload your customized list using ACC if you do any firmware upgrades. If you do a FORMAT APPLICATION AREA, you definitely must reupload the files. If you simply update the firmware, it may or may not rewrite the backup files, but it is always the best policy to simply reupload period.

The other errors and troubles that Mr3p and I mentioned above this will NOT be corrected by using the procedure to N.A.'ize your list. Those problems are totally unrelated to the DVBS back-up file/s in the DISK1 folder.

RADAR,
As always, your replies and info are first class. My best guess is that we will not see much if any new firmware releases from Opensat which is assisting in the development of Enigma2 for Azbox. Azbox E2 is still in Beta but making good steps forward so I'd expect an RC at the beginning of 2011, hopefully in Jan. From the rumors floating around the 'net, firmware updates were being provided to Opensat by Celrun (STB manufacturer) but that responbility ended/terminated with 5020.

I just had that same thing happen the other day. I have 3 sats loaded (99W, motor 1 and motor2 which are feeds from the 2 motorized). I loaded a new C-Band one and all of a sudden I had like 300 sats loaded. Sucks to remove them all ;)

Again if your using the remote to add a satellite this can happen if you have not done a complete North Americanization of your satellite/channel list. By this I mean completely removing every satellite that came with the receiver and re-adding all new satellites using the editor programs and uploading them to the receiver using the ACC program.
When I did my list I tried to think ahead and if I thought I wanted an extra satellite at a specific location I put it in as a spare.
It took some time to get it done but the results have been worth it as I have not experienced the problems others are facing.

That backup file in the /DISK1/DISK2_backup directory will do that on a reboot unless it's modified to match the /DISK2/DVBS.dat changes that you made. The Azbox Control Center (ACC) software will modify both files at the same time but it can be done from the command line (a more complex process), also.

Now if I upgrade my OS to Enigma 2 Will I have to rebuild a new satellite list or am I still good using the one I built out in the Aztoolbox.

Bob,

No, you should be fine with the same list.

However, I do not recommend that you install the Enigma 2 firmware just yet. It is not perfected. Perfected? Hell, it isn't even close, most of the features do not work at all. They are still working out the bugs. Allow the seriously crazy beta testers time to play with this avenue first and give them time to weasel the glitches out first. I will not install this firmware personally until they have confirmed that it is fully functional. It will probably be excellent when finished, but wait til they are finished before you start playing with it. Get accustomed to the original firmware first, learn the operation of the AZBox as is and wait. You will be dissappointed if you install the E2 now and want to change back, and then you will have troubles and be kicking yourself.

Please, just wait a few months at least.
